Assuming Hincapie doesn't crash when does Bruneyl tell Popo and Salvo to get pulling?? After the next good Hincapie TT performance or first mountain stage??
Pick the stage.
My moneys on sooner but Hincapie could tank on first climb and then Bruneyl's left holding his d#@k.

According to the interview I heard him give in French a number of weeks ago, he would decide on the first mountain stage.

just curious, when Armstrong won his 1st was he the team leader from the outset? or did he pick up that role in the tour....

i think a lot of teams are doing the wait and see tactic. Michael Rogers could spring a surprise for T moble.

This sounds like a sensible approach for Bruyneel to follow. However, if it's a close call, what do people think about giving it to Hincapie - his loyalty as one of the factors over the last 7 years and that he doesn't have many more years to do this? Or do people think Bruyneel is likely to take it in a very business-like way, giving the leadership responsibility to whomever has the best chance of doing it even if it is a slim lead over the other disco people (whoever that ends up being if it turned out that way)

Yes....Bruyneel is proud to tell the story about how the other directeurs laughed at him when he told them his GC rider was Armstrong.

Actually, it was Armstrong who picked Bruyneel.

Can't help wondering if George's clever sprint to don yellow was a hint to the boss...
