Has anyone tried the inverted tread slick design on the trails with any success? I have heard about the Avocet Cross II series but I wonder about the knobbie-less design on the dirt. Any other ideas about a similar tire? It would be great to find a tire that worked well on both the road and the dirt . . . Thanks.

The OP said inverted, not directional.

Inverted tread tires are great on the road and fine on hardpack dirt but would be pretty sketchy on loose trails or in wetter conditions. Other options are tires with a smooth center tread and knobs on the shoulder...then at least you have some bite when cornering on more questionable surfaces.
