Has anyone out there used the touring frame offered by Nashbar? The price is attractive obviously, but it also makes me suspect that its not very good. Any personal experiences?

i currently use a 1994 nashbar 6000t chro-moly db tourer. i am in the process of rebuilding the drive train (gear ratio was off, wear and tear). it's steady when fully loaded w/gear.
i have noticed the nashbar aluminum touring frames for sale and assume these frames are specific to your question. i can't supply a full answer. i also am considering to upgrade, looking at this frame as well (vs trek - cannondale )

I can’t speak from first hand knowledge of that frame but I did buy one of their road frames as an interim while a frame warranty issue was being resolved. I moved all my components to the Nashbar frame and it went great. I did get my new frame from Bianchi and instead of moving the components back, I bought another set to put on the Bianchi. Now I have two road bikes. Oh well.

With my Nashbar road frame, the welds are solid but not a work of art. The threads were perfect and square. It isn’t the lightest frame in the world but it rides and tracks well. I would definitely buy another.

There was a long how-to thread on this. so search this forum. also search the comuting forum, some people use them for comuting.

A lot of people will tell you it is too cheap, but realistically this is probably about the quality of the stuff in the very popular REI bike. Nashbar has been making touring frames for about 20 years that I know of.

You can buy Surly frames regularly for 350, so if you don't mind another 200 the Surly gets you a bike with a little more resale value if that is important, and you will have a whole online comunity, on the other hand a lot of that rah rah stuff just ratchets up the build price for trendy parts. If you just do some routine comuting where theft is an issue, or a few weeks touring every year, maybe the Nashbar makes more sense.

Dunno, but I've ordered one.

Here are a few threads about it:
