Mountain Biking - Sram Derailleur Model Year Problem

ok... basically i ordered a rockhopper comp disc. then i haggled for a swap from shimano to sram.

I have a MAJOR problem. i originally had them swap out the deore shifters and deore lx derailleur for x-7 shifters and x-7 rd, right?
well then i went back and decided to pay the difference to upgrade to x9's.

i took a look at the x9's (in the box, the rockhopper had to be ordered in later) and then went home.

then i went to the sram website. the x9's they had are IDENTICAL to the x-7's that i saw on sram.com.

i figured that they had last year's x9's, which became this year's x7's.

i'm like CRAP i paid 40 bucks extra just to get x7's.

what the heck should i do? should i make them order in this year's x9's? it'll cost the same... right?
i don't wanna be stuck with last year's x-9's next year. and i DO care. that's 40 bucks down the drain.

UPDATE: not even. jensonusa.com shows that this is the 05 x9 derailleur too. that means the x9 they're giving me is from 04 or even older.

difference between current x7 and x9:
lighter (because of more magnesium)
pulleys use cartridge bearings rather than sealed (can replace just the bearings rather than the entire pulley).

No offense, but you really don't know that. It could and likely is using better quality bearings and bushings. I know the x.7 has a pretty crap bushing/c clamp at the bolt side where it clips into the hanger, the x.9 is slightly better.

anyway... i called them just now and i told them my little problem and they told me they'll order a new one in... just like that.

i just hope they don't forget though...

anyways, my last bit of knowledge before i leave:

apparently this year's x.9's have a problem with breaking b-knuckles, apparently caused by chains that are too short... even on bone stock factory-new bikes.

that kinda sucks, with so many x9's out on bikes this year...

but i bet every derailleur has its problems though... don't tell me the deore xt is perfect and free of flaws...

guaranteed... if there's a part out there.. someone's gonna have a story of it breaking a week out of the box.

plus the point of my problem is that i paid 40 bucks for nothing.

I make $7.50 an hour. NO biggy. Yah know what. It's X.9 all the same. It's still going to perform well and it's going to be a good derailleur, so if it doesn;t work out, you're stuck with a derailleur that shifts well, big loss

so go for it - buy all your stuff from '96 - i'm sure you'll get great deals on stuff from back then... and it'll shift 'well' too. you know, shimano tourneys shift well to most people too.

I know you want to find the best deal out there and all that good stuff. But i think you are stressing over a very minor detail. I dont mean to be flippent, but they are both good ders and you probably wont notice the difference.

seriously i was just a little overreacted from the sunny hot day... i guess my photon receivers clogged up and i needed something to stress over.

So all that work to get SRAM X.7 and then X.9 for nothing? :D

At least you made a decision though... I'm still as undecided as ever! :p

so go for it - buy all your stuff from '96 - i'm sure you'll get great deals on stuff from back then... and it'll shift 'well' too. you know, shimano tourneys shift well to most people too.

i stated my point clearly. and it's TWO years of difference, about to be three. and 04 x9=current x7. would you like to make a few hour's worth of work amount to absolutely nothing? i don't think so. i already got my x7 for free, i was paying $40 to upgrade to x9.
