Hi, Looking for a secure U-lock and deciding which is the better investment.
Kryptonite New York 3000 for $65 @ Amazon
or
OnGuard Brute LS 5000 for $48 @ Amazon plus some other $17 dollar U-Lock/Chain.

In general two types of lock on a bike is better than one.
Two types as in two U-Locks or one U-lock plus one chain?

Both are fine choices for the Sheldon Brown locking method (rear wheel to locking post). However, unless you live in friendly village, you need a second lock to secure the front wheel. The OnGuard Pitbull TC mini u-lock is a good lock for the front wheel.
For your wheels you could also invest in some locking skewers. This post has more info on them. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=205667
