What do people call out when you're riding your crazy bike?
i ride a tallbike and a penny farthing bike. people call off the street or out of car windows and half the time it's a whoooop! or i can't understand what they're saying at all. it's like people don't know what to say, but they just can't bear to keep their mouth shut. I find i get really different responses when out on a vintage ride, compared with riding chopped tall bikes, and my tougher looking male friends get different comments than i do.
the most common comment of the ones i am able to decypher is: How do you get up?
closely followed by: How do you get down?
these two are the bane of penny and tallbike riders worldwide.
Other comments encountered have been:
That is camp! That is sooo camp! [accompanied by flamboyant gesturing]
My grandad had a boneshaker like that!
IT'S THAT MAN! IT'S THAT MAN!! [kids, alerting eachother to the spectacle]
I've never seen anything like it in my life! I thought I'd seen it all!
I've got a big one too - come over here and ride mine.
and the ubiquitous: Respect!
Every now and then someone comes out with a little gem.
