First, I'd like to thank everybody for sharing their recipes for burgers, salads and the rest.

Next.....what's your favorite fast food joint and what do you get there? I personally like Dick's in Seattle, for their cheap cheeseburgers. But if we go somewhere else, I actually try to get the salads. But the best are the taco trucks in LA.
The worst? Any place named King or Queen something.

Thanks

Burger Shack in Toronto -- I think it's at Avenue and St. Clair. Great burgers and shakes.

best: those "cajun bourbon chicken" places you find in the mall...the blackened chicken with a double side of cajun potatoes is off the hook. Greasy as hell, but pure culinary bliss....spicy too.

worst: McDonald's. Pretty much nothing stands out at all on their menu...bland bland bland.

A regular Egg McMuffin from Club Mac has less than 400 calories and the taste is universal.

Anything from Burger King or Hardees can clog your arteries quickly.

An Italian Beef or Chicago-style Hot Dog from Portillo's is usually nearby somewhere in the Chicago area... tasty!

There are hundreds of other hot dog and beef joints in the area, just threw Portillo's out there because they are pretty widespread (... and can cause one to become widespread if not visited in moderation... )

i never thought i'd be able to beat my fast food addiction. i used to LOVE fast food. burgers, onion rings, fries, etc. i'd eat them all. now, i still enjoy those things but i like to make them myself. the actually fast food versions just don't taste good to me anymore. something about the grease or lard they fry in.

Best - Chicken Schwarma at Jerusalem Garden in Ann Arbor.
Worst - Kentucky Fried Chicken - no only does it suck here - no mashed potatoes.

Oooh -- forgot about the shawarma. Barakat in London, Ontario, Canada.

I forgot about the shwarma also. But it can only be beef. Chicken just isn't the same. Some tahini and seared onions. There's a place out on the sidewalk on Talaat Harb Street in Cairo that does it best. Along with a big glass of mango juice.

There's a whole bunch of brain cells in my head going MMmmmmm!

Best chain: In-And-Out (a double-double animal-style for me, if you please)
Best local: Tortuga (tortas y burritos)
Worst ever: McDonald's (not just bad, but evil)

Doh!

Forgot about skyline! Awesome conies. Cheese, onions, and dripping with tabasco for me. Of course it must be downed with a ice cold coke.

PDX has taco trucks, too. Lindo Michocan is the one near me (SE 34th and Division). They were voted 'Best Tacos' on a recent Taco Ride, beat out all the other fast (and slow) food joints. Good selection including cabrito and lengua. If you're lucky, they also have tamales in stock, yum!

I haven't eaten in a chain fast food restaurant in over 10 years.

Coney Islander. Little hotdogs on soggy buns covered in chili that look strikingly like baby **** covered in unnaturally yellow processed American Cheese. Makes me simultaneously feel like I'm about to vomit and **** my pants. Wash it down with carbonated sugar water. I have no idea how I survived that garbage.

in-and-out is my fave. fresh burgers never frozen. they peel, cut and fry the potatoes right there. none of the pre-processed crapola. too bad the nearest one to me is 400 miles away. road trip anyone?

Mediterranean Grill - North Decatur Rd - Atlanta
shish kabob (sliced sirloin), kufta kabob (ground sirloin), and gyro slices served w/rice pilaf, salad and pita.
I love Greek food. They have it figured out.

The Varsity - An old style Drive-in open since 1928 in Atlanta - We're talking hot dogs loaded all the way, the famous chili burger, onion rings or fries and to top it off chocolate milk on ice or an orange julius if you prefer. The greasy food is guaranteed to loosen up the digestive track. ummmm! goooooooood!

Best Chicken place....Lee's Famous Recipe. Sadly only a few locations still serve Gizzards, let alone Gizzards by the pint. That was one of my faves when I was growing up...ride my bike to the drive-thru (they actually allowed it), and ordering a pint of gizzards. Jamming it into my handlebar bottle holder, soaked with hot sauce and eating them as I ride around town.

The older I get, the less I like fast food. I'll define fast food as the cooked in grease or fried variety of red meat, chicken or fish you get at the drive up. (I consider Subway and Quiznos as delis, and both are great in my book).

Also, I have just been put on Cholesterol-lowering medicine, so I need to be even more careful.

If I HAVE to pick a favorite...

Miguel's Jr. has great Mexican food but it is very regional. I think it's only in Riverside County in SoCA. I'm sure the Number 11 Dinner is a real artery clogger, so I limit myself to eat there only once a month.

And I love dem dawgs. Der Wienerschnitzel comes in a close second.

The worst? Mickey D's for sure. So why is it the biggest chain in the world? Do we have some closet 'maccers here? :D

To me fast food is anyplace where the food is served with little wait.

Firehouse Subs is much better than Subway, but for real fast food you can't beat Whataburger.

Worst: My vote goes to Long John Silver's. Everything tastes the same, and everything is fried.

Best: (of the common ones at least) Arby's (lots of choices) and Wendy's (now that you can substitute for their wretched fries when you get a combo).

Best fast food? Moe's or Willy's.

Worst? Taco Bell.

Best Burger? Johnny Rocket's or Fuddrucker's
.
Worst? Hardee's or McDonald's

Best Fried Chicken or Fish? This little shack on the border of GA/SC. I forget the name.

Worst? Ms. Winner's/ Church's/LJS. That stuff is all fat, grease, and steroids. Yuck.

Best fries? McDonald's hands down. But after I found out the batter was dried beef fat (the secret flavor), I stopped eating them. Mostly. I succumb about once or twice a year.

I'd like to nominate Tom Wahl's, but alas, I've never been there. I dig the name though.

When I think fast food I think big chains, something I can find in most of my travels. When I think best I think more than taste.

I dig Arby's. Decent low fat menu selections available, and I'm counting calories.

Worst: no baked taters

I like Wendy's chili too. Over a tater, that's very good.
