Long Distance Cycling - Convenience Cuisine

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
In my region, Breverts use convenience stores for almost all controls. So, naturally, that's where we dine on the road. What are your personal favorite gourmet delights from the Kwickie Mart?
My current favorite are pop tarts. About 450 calories per twin pack. Wash it down with a Coke from the fountain and I'm good to go for a couple more hours.
Hostess Ding Dongs and a chocolate milk are another high calorie favorite.
I like YooHoo chocolate drink when I can get it instead of chocolate milk. YooHoo has lots of calories and it's all carbs. Unfortunately, I only see YooHoo in about 25% of stores.
Next to the coffee in many convenience stores there is a selection of pastries and large cookies ... those are all favorites of mine.
I also enjoy the little $0.99 packettes of salted almonds (sodium and potassium), and occasionally the beef jerky. I used to eat potato chips quite often, and still will once in a while, but now I prefer the salted almonds.
Sometimes the convenience stores go so far as to sell pizza by the slice, or hot dogs, or something ... and if I'm ready for a "meal" when I reach a convenience store, I'll go for something like that. It's a lot faster than sitting down in a restaurant.
For beverages, I mentioned these in another post:
- 100% pure orange juice
- Nestea Iced Tea
- Coke
- Orange pop
Normally, while sitting at home in an evening, I love my chocolate ... but oddly, when I am on a brevet, I do not like chocolate and will not purchase a chocolate bar along the way. I can't explain why ... but when I'm cycling, chocolate just has little or no appeal to me at all.
poptarts and gatorade. you can ride for years on enough of these. and peanut butter crackers.:)

That's nice, but at some point, you may want to improve the quality of your diet.
Often overlooked, at convenience stores is the microwave oven and the available canned goods.
Some of my favorites include, vegetable soup, instant potatoeS or oatmeal and other stuffs that just need hot water or heating like wieners, beans... etc etc.........

That stuff is pretty nifty if you could find it at a quickie mart. I'd halfway consider taking a small bottle with me, but it can go bad if its not refrigerated. 16oz of that stuff (1 bottle) has 860mg of Potassium, 80 carbs, and 360 calories.
Bad thing is probably only maybe 10% of stores around here carry the stuff.
