Training & Nutrition - The "tinggly" feeling

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Ok, curiosity has finally gotten the cat; can someone explain what the little tingly feeling is that you feel in your legs say the evening or next evening after riding? It's almost like getting the chills (for search of better words) that only lasts for a few seconds. Is this the muscle rebuilding itself? Is it the muscle starving for nutrients? I have always wondered but still never found the answer. Thanks.

There are that I know of quite a few things that can cause a tingly feeling. It could be everything from a pinched nerve, poor circulation, ect.. Need more specifics.. I'm thinking, it could be.. For lack of correct term, like a carpul tunnel of the leg.. I got it when I could lay on my arm, it was like a chill, tingly feeling.. and I realise I was pinching a veesel, so I stopped and it stopped... I'm not sure, though.. I don't think a tingly feeling is a good feeling.. Who knows.. Pay a visit to your doctor.
Ya, doctor is a good idea. If it is a very noticeable feeling. I am no Dr., but I can tell you that I have never had that feeling after riding...
Thanks. It is not immediately after riding but about 8 or so hours later. It is not a bad feeling at all but rather a pleasant feeling. Kind of like the chills goose bumps feeling you get when someone lightly rubs their finger nails on your back when getting a back scratch. This is why I was wondering if it was the muscles rebuilding themselves . . .

I think I know what you're talking about:
You know when someone blows into their straw, making bubbles in their drink? Is it kinda like that, only under your skin?
If so, I've had the same feeling plenty of times (and not just after riding), but I don't know what it is or if it's bad. Sorry.:(
Sometimes this would happen to me, especially across the bottoms of my feet. After investing in a good pair of riding shoes, it hasn't occurred again. Think proper shoes = proper circulation. Don't know if this is an answer but it was for me. good luck..

I think I know exactly what you mean but I don't have the answer. When I train hard, the next day I feel tingly all over, like my body's newly alert and readjusting itself. I have no idea what that "feeling" translates into physiologically.

Yeah, that's the feeling . . .

well whatever causes it, I personally think it's good, not a cause to run to the doctor :)

I get this feeling and to me its a symptom of detoxing heavy metals. Its kind of like pins and needles but a bit more on the sharp but fewer side. Heavy metals and other toxic substances have an affinity for fat or are fat soluble. We store toxins in our body fat and then when we exercise hard and burn fat we mobilise the toxins again and hopefully excrete them although mobilising toxins and excreting them are two different issues.
Anyway its probably a good sign realy if you can tolerate it. If it becomes too much you could try a detoxifyer called Chlorella although the initial response to Chlorella may be to bring on a stronger detoxification response but Chlorella does bind to metals which allows them to be excreted safely.
I believe the tingling feeling is due to a nerve response.

It's not a bad feeling at all. In fact, it is very pleasing. Kind of like when someone tells you a story and you get the chills and goosebumps . . . I just had a hard hill work day yesterday morning, and late yesterday evening I got the feeling again while lying in bed watching some TV. I thought of it as a personal massage therapist living under my skin:)
