I just got my Nokian studded tires the Happika (something model) the studs located nearer the center. Anyways, last week we had snow and I was all over the paths, they didnt do well in snow, but if the tire isnt hitting pavement, the studs are not working - I know this. Today, the snow is gone, but we have ice warnings, freezing rain, Im affraid any turn or getting off center of the studs that I will go down fast. Anyone try these in ice?

Just play around on them for a week or two,So you know the limits of them.It took me almost a month to get used to my set.Also play around with different tire pressures.

I ride the nokian mount and grounds, they bite much better after you put about 200 miles on them.

I'm sitting across the pond from you expecting the same weather and patting myself on the back for having the insight to buy Nokian Hakkepeletas W106's. I'm pretty sure my chances of making it home tonight after work are much better with these tyres than without them.

As Gojohnnygo said, feel them out and develop a confidence level, just don't get to overconfident, cause that's when you will go down :)

To answer your original question, Yes, I have ridden these on ice before many times.

I've had those same tires for about a month. I've been on them in snow and ice storms. Iv'e been on frozen packed snow and icy roads. No problem. Once, while going down a steep hill with hard packed frozen snow, I hit the breaks and my back wheel slid sideways a little. I didn't even go down.

I have not tried the cornering. I take corners gingerly - trying not to lean over to much.

I agree with Gojohnnygo, try different tyre pressures. I have the Hakkapeliitta W106's as well and I ride them at a fairly low pressure. No problems on ice or hard packed snow. You will have to change your riding style and technique to suit the conditions, though. Winter riding is a different sport compared to summer riding.

I finally was able to put on my new studded tires last night. I reluctantly bought the Innova tire. My LBS has been trying to order the Mount and Grounds and then the IRC Blizzard for over a month now, but the supplier was out of stock. So, I finally gave in and told them to order me a couple of the Innova's. From what I can tell, they aren't real well made, but will definately work better than a non-studded tire. I tried them out last night in the fresh snow and found they were a bit slippery, but I am sure they will work better on hard packed snow...I will find out tonight.
