So who likes the idea of getting Clydesdale Jerseys printed?

If you are in do you have any thoughts?

Obvious ideas:

clydesdale on bike
fun stuff written on it (see my signature for my idea...)*
funky colors/pattern?
"Objects in mirror may appear larger than..."
etc?

*In my mind it is like the Arrogant Bastard jersey

Why not just wear a Budweiser jersey?

I would be in. Great idea. It needs to be somewhat conservative for me. I don't want to look like a clown riding down the road.

I don't think there is a Bud jersey with a clydesdale on it. I've looked/googled.

I've been wanting a clydesdale jersey for a while. Just make sure it's not all fruity looking. I don't want some **** looking prarie scene. Maybe something like a clydesdale pulling a pack of cyclists.

How about "BEEF" in plain block letters?

I'd buy one. Nothing to "fat guy" please. I'm just a big guy not really fat.

I think my bike hates me.

Another idea I have toyed with is "Single Lane Drafting Only"
I weigh around 240 pounds and whenever I am riding along at 20 mph I usually see two riders side by side behind me taking advantage of the extra draft I provide.

Like the no name food at the market... That works well 'cause you could go with a solid white jersey. But it misses/conflicts with the "clydsedale" thing.

Whatever the group thinks... I'll compile and submit for review.

How about something like a road sign with "caution: Fat guys in lycra crossing" or "beware of big men wearing lycra" or "never too big to be on a bike". Just my 2 cents as a 250lb rider.

Ps. Just the other day as I was at a stop sign I heard a someone yell "hey your too fat to ride that bike" to which my response was "Hey I did not know A-holes could talk" Luckily he laughed and said good one and we both went our separate way's

My $.02 worth - no words, no prairie scenes, no beer wagons, no horses on bikes, just a single-color background (light color is better so the artwork stands out) with a Clydesdale (four-legged, not two-legged) in mid-stride on the front and back of the jersey. It could be head-on, from the side, 3/4 view - doesn't really matter so long as one can tell it is, in fact, a furry-hooved Clyde. Subtle, conveys the message to the cognescenti, and I'd be all over that like flies on Clydesdale droppings.

6'3", 280 lb, if anyone cares.

bikejerseys.com has full team jerseys and some generic jerseys that run up to 6xl.. Remember that the Santini jerseys run about 2 sizes small.. I like using them because my big issue is jersey length because I am so tall.. I can get a jersey that fits but the pockets are in the middle of my back.. The Santini jerseys are plenty long and a great choice in sizes..

I've always wondered: Does clydesdale refer to fat or just being over 200 pounds, regardless of body composition?

Has to have the following sponsor categories:

Beer

Pizza

Donuts

We could ask Jan Ullrich for his suggestions.

just the two beans...

It is an impercise term. I used to show up at clydesdale and super clydesdale (>250#) events and there would be these 6'6" guys who did nothing but work out and ride. We should not be in the same category.

Except with a more Budweiser theme. (Front) Looking at the Clydes (men) pulling the carraige at you. (Back) the back of the carraige with a some kind of quip about Clydesdale. Use a font similar to the Bud ads.

I would be in....280 down to 265 now...6'2!!!

I've considered having some "Team Clydesdale" jerseys made and then trying to sell them but I've been afraid i'd sell four jerseys and then be stuck with a lifetimes worth of jerseys in my house.

I like the subtle clydesdale alone. Gets the message across. As some have said... clydesdale don't always occur as a result of donuts, beer and sofa use...

Just my .02 cents.

I like the subtle "just a clydesdale" concept,

Will you guys please stop posting the horse butt. It burns my eyes

How about Clydesdale across the shoulders in the back in a arch pattern with a realistic picture of the actual horse (no butt close ups). How about a sponser or two to help with the cost?

I like the idea of a Clydesdale (horse) pulling the peloton. I like the image of a majestic Clydesdale all by itself on the jersey. I really DON'T like the sumo horse butt, anything with donuts, or spent beer cans, or dented sofas. I want to buy something that I'd feel proud to wear riding in a century, something that legitimizes the big guy rider, not perpetuates the stereotypes.

Not that I don't have a sense of humor I know that I've got a Body by Ben & Jerry's (that I steadfastly maintain with fried shrimp and chicken fingers), but I don't want to be B & J's rolling billboard.

I like several of the ideas so far, but just thought I would toss out an idea that just came to me.

I like wearing yellow because of visibility, and one day I was harrassed on my driver and then cut off by another driver in one 20 mile ride. I don't remember if it made my final version, but in a draft of my letter to the editor, on bicyclists' rights to the road, I mentioned that my 3X yellow jersey should have made me as visible as a school bus.

So, when an earlier post mentioned hi-viz... what about a school bus theme?

Maybe the front of a bus in the front, and on the back... well, that would be the back of the bus... with the bus lettering somehow indicating Clydesdale. And maybe in one (or both) have a toonish clydesdale driving or looking out the window...

OK, I hate it when my mind goes so many places at once...

How about "Clydesdale Powered" in large letters on the front... A Slow Moving Vehicle symbol with a Clydesdale in the middle for the back, and a school bus on each of the side panels?

Well, I have taken enough of your time for now... go ahead and read the next post.

Then I'll post a poll and we'll see how the response is. I'll post on this thread or link to the post on this thread. So, keep a look out here.

(Silverserpent said ealier that he had thought about doing this. If he (OR ANYONE) has advice on getting jerseys made, I'm all ears. I'm only doing this for the laughs. I'd gladly hand it off if somebody actually has an easy way to make this happen...)

For the record I'm definitely a Clyde, 6'1" 254 as of this morning, but I ain't no slow moving vehicle. I typically complete 20+ rides on moderately hilly terrain at about 16-18 mph. I typically burn up the little guys with their spindly little quads on the hills. If it is cool, I'm in for under $60 and a club fit XXL.

My cousin owns a silk screen machine - if we supply the jerseys he'd print them fairly cheaply plus we could keep the silk screen to order future ones. I almost think it would be better if we came up with a design that people were happy with, then printed to order. It may take a little longer to get them out but then no one's stuck with 100 shirts and out $xxx

Perhaps another idea would be to try to go through an existing organization as a fund raiser - either BF or Times-Up where people would be interested in them beyond this thread.

Ideas...ideas....

I thought about the slow part after the fact.

I have thought it would be interesting to have a jersey with a Slow Moving Vehicle symbol in general. It wasn't intended to label clydesdales as slow, even if some of us are.

I do still like the text on the front and an image of a clydesdale on the back.

My cousin owns a silk screen machine -
I believe that silk-screening won't work for a bike jersey - if memory serves, the inks or paints or whatever won't stand up to the sweat and hard use. The process that manufacturers of non-wool non-acrylic jerseys use is called "sublimation." I have no idea what it means or how the process is achieved, but has the effect of making the color one with the garment. Sublimated graphics on bike jerseys don't peel off or wash out - they may fade over time, but the life of the graphic is effectively the same as the life of the jersey.

Great thought, though.

Any progress yet? I am ready for the poll.
In an earlier thread I said I'd wait a week for ideas and post the poll on the 17th.

In my mind, the first one I am designing (keep in mind I have almost no artistic ability -- I am an idea guy) is:

a clydesdale on a bike pulling a Beer wagon (like the Bid Clydesdales) at a starting line* with a thoroughbred next to him with a bottle in his water cage.
(Some tag about "the clydesdale may not win the race but he never looses the party.") -- It is still in the idea phase.

* or maybe approaching the finish line with them neck and neck... (In respect to the guys who said, "I'm a clyde but I'm not slow...)

(The funny thing is, I could see a whole line of shirts with this theme, like the Big Dog shirts... Cartoon horse wearing bicycle helmet saying, "Hi, I'm Mr Dale." On the back, "You can call me Clyde.")
