Mountain Biking - question about specialized fsr xc

I just bought one w/no blemishes, dings, or any of that mess. So what can I expect out of this bike after I throw on my Marz Z1cr? Is this a good bike to upgrade? I usually ride semi aggressive to aggressive, only because of my weight. I weigh about 196'ish and sometimes try 4-5' drops. Mostly just hitting up decent trails (lots of roots, stumps, little drops, etc... Is this bike going to hold up? Anyway, let me know what you guys think of this bike:D thanx guys

Also, which rear shocks do I have to choose from for upgrading? I think I forgot to mention it's an 04

you could put a float rlt on the back there, or wait for the new 07 fox stuff. it looks really, really nice.

i know!! im in the middle of deciding weither to buy a 06 talas rlc, 06 vanilla r or wait for the 07 vannila r!

I have an '06 fsr XC Comp and I love it. I ride the same as you but I too would not do 4' drops. You should upgrade to disc brakes if the frame is compatible. Hope you enjoy it and have fun upgrading.

And yes, I would like to know too... Is 4ft. really pushing it? I've been doing 4 footers with this guy(the haro) for a while now. And its CHEAP... Maybe I'm mean to my bikes? Oh well, I picked up the fsr for $300 because I thought it'd be a good step up from the haro. I just havent really had too much time to ride it yet:(

Exactly. People think that just because its an XC bike it can't take 4' drops, come on, i bet that thing could take a ten foot drop with no problem. It's all in the landing. People ride trails on hardtail mountain bikes sometimes, they take way more that 4' drops.

yea you can do a 4 foot drop on that bike. but after a season of doing 4 foot drops you might encounter some problems.

its not that you cant do it. its that its going to eventually mess up the bike since it is not made for that.

Probably the biggest problem would be wheels. After a while of doing that without FR wheels, they would probably need some truing. Not many problems more severe than that.
