Just came in today - - FINALLY - - fresh from Syncros product development in Vancouver, B.C. This is the new prototype chain guide. Dig the CF body. The lower roller is on spring steel. They had to have the spring survive 500,000 flex cycles before they'd pass it (that's part of what took the time: to get the tempering right). Bash guards are chromed (!!) One bash is for 44/46; the other for 36-40T rings.

Yes: they're a brand new sponsor for me this year. So far I have a set of Mental Alloy pedals and now this. This guide first debuted at Interbike last year, but hasn't made it into production yet. I got #23 of this batch of 25 prototypes. If all tests well with us, they should go into production around Interbike time this year (don't quote me, just a guess).

that would make it more than twice as heavy as some of the offer chain guides out there. unless they are lying, but that is a lot of weight to lie about. the only reason i am harping on this is because i was specifically looking for a light chain guide. then you post this pic. i was like wtf, by the time my freakin' bike gets built all these new products are coming out. annoying :D

maybe including the cranks? He does say it is including the weight of the chainring?

I'm gonna have to weigh it on the right scale at work when I'm not in a hurry tomorrow. I weight it on a cheapy scale at home and came up with: Guide - 8 oz.; bashring 5½ oz. Total: 13½ oz. Now I want to know what it really weighs. More to come.

Still, whatever, in my mind it's more than worth it if I never throw a chain on a timed run again.

OK - - I got it on the ultra-accurate postage meter scale this morning and here are the numbers: Guide assembly: 8.1 oz; 44/46 bashring: 5.1 oz; 36-40 bashring: 4.4 oz.

Yeah, it's probably a little hefty by trailriding standards, but this is a single-ring-only DH guide. I'll take durability and security over a few grams.

Truvativ Boxguide (guide only): 350g
Blackspire IST-1: 640g
Blackspire AS-1: 455g (both of these include the bashguard weight I presume)

Syncros prototype: 230g (guide only) + 144 bashring = 374g total
I'd say it's right in there and probably lighter than the rest.

the new e13 lg1 is supposed to be under 200g, but you do not use a bash ring. e13 will email the weights to you . they did last yr in an excel doc.

the gamut i ordered is supposed to be under 200g. granted it is a more "delicate" design, it will suit my needs well because i am a very calculating rider.
