Cyclocross - CX fork madness!!!??

ok so i am sick and tired of my flexy stock fork on my poprad and am thinking od going to a carbon like the Alpha Q, Easton, or Ritchey...although i have also looked into the sibex titaniums. anybody race any of these and if so what do you think. flexy?....compliant?....light? i just want a good fork and dont feel too inclined to buy and not like it....thanks

Which year/model Poprad?

its a 2006 with avid shorty 4's. i have adjusted the fork and brakes so it doesnt make noise or shiver on me when dry but when the wheels get wet and i put that front brake on it jacks around like crazy.

I don't think it's the fork. Try some oldschool MTB cantilevers and a fork mounted cable stop. Worked for me-and I'm running essentially the same fork you are-Kinesis Crosslight. No chatter whatsoever now.

(I've never heard of an aluminum fork referred to as flexy.) But regardless, if I had the cash I'd take a good look at the Alpha Q -- seems that people around here have had good things to say about them. One thing to check, though, is fork rake. The Poprad rake is 45, so I imagine you want a replacement fork that's the same.

Sweet...just swapped out my Project 2 and installed a winwood muddy...now the brakes are fubar....shudders like me at a Streisand Concert. Going to try new pads and towing them in.

I've got the Alpha Q CX with Ti steerer. I'm a clyde (210) and wanted something tough. Very light too. I'd buy another one.

Right on, Darkmother! I had this problem with a Winwood Muddy and the solution was the fork mounted cable stop. I'm still not sure why this eliminates fork shudder, but it does. It should be the first remedy anybody tries, because it really works and can save the expense of a new fork or brakes.

Carbon forks shudder too, even the Alpha Q. I have a friend that has the sibex and it's a nice piece for sure. But no matter what its the nature of cross brakes to cause shuddering. The AL fork on my girlfriends Poprad is solid as a rock. Maybe you are experiencing something else?

i'm rockin' 2 carbon forks on my cx bikes and love 'em. nice and light. not flexy in my experience but i'm smooth and light (140 lbs) myself, so no complaints. the ritchey is nice, and ive never heard anything bad about the alpha q...there's tons of them on cx rigs out there....
