I think Ive decided on a bike and it is the Rockhopper Pro Disc All Mountain. It cost $1100.00 which is a bit over my limit but Ill make it work. For those that know, what are the pros and cons of this bike? I am mostly going to be riding trails easy and very rough, steep...the works. Lots of miles ahead for me. I also wonder how fast I can get up to on a flat paved surface in top gear with this bike.
Here is the link..." http://specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=12618&bikeTab=techspec".
Please look at it and fill me in. Also is this a 27 speed? The casette says its a 9 speed. 3 gears up front also?? Is this bike tough and reliable? Should I order it from Specialized over the net, or is going through a LBS going to be better? Thanks
For laughs what can I expect to be different if i get this bike compared to my current Mongoose xr250?

specialized doesn't sell over the net so i would head to the LBS where you can be properly fitted.
If you are planning to spend $1100 I would probably go with the base stumpjumper and upgrade the componets as they wear out.
Stumpjumper don't come in 5 inch travel configurations.

Its an awesome bike...its an awesome frame...I rode a stumpjumper and like the rockhopper geometry better. I am building a rockhopper comp disc frame from the ground up ( It was the only one that came in the color I liked...dream punk) go to the store and ride one. Mines gonna end up costing me about 1600 but I'm gonna have all the stuff I want on it. Reba forks....xtr everything ;) good luck

the all-mountain version only has 2 chainrings up front, and the third is replaced with a plastic bash guard for better ground clearance, and other reasons i can't think of right now.

Didnt relize it had only 2 chainrings in front. Ill get the Comp Disc for $880 instead since it has 3 rings in front. Ill get the black punk.
You can put a third ring on the AM Rockhopper if it is that big of a deal to you. Any LBS would probably swap the guard for a ring and not charge you anything.
In any case why not get a Specialized Rockhopper Pro Non All Mountain version...
never is right and good luck finding a Black Punk Rockhopper Comp Disc...
I tried to do that for my bike crank, but it didnt fit
Just got rid of my big ring today
It aint all its cracked up to be imo.

I will try to post pictures as I get them. as far as the money involved I meant xtr everything important lol, like deraillers, hubs things like that. maybe xt cranks but I want avid juicy brakes I think and definatly the reba fork. probably the sl though dont want to go too crazy. I have also made mods to old faithful. put on a new deore rear derailler with a new sram grip shift and cable. some riser bars and diamondback pedals. turning that one into a street cruiser ;) hope to be done with the rockhopper by fall.

I forgot to mention that I got the frame dirt cheap ($125) that is how I figure it will cost me that much. you can see pictures of both rigs at my site (http://www.kriskraft.net)
