Introductions - Greetings from OhiO

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yep, I'm a road/commuter cyclist living here in Columbus. I had my steed stolen last September so I've spent the winter tracking down parts and putting together a new ride instead of riding. The most important thing I learned... NEVER HAVE JUST ONE BIKE! Anyway, I'm back in the saddle finally. I'm a borderline bike-geek and figured I should find an outlet for this thing as my friends/family/co-workers aren't really into it. Hope I'm in the right place.

Hey there RareVos and welcome to the forum...Say I see that you're down there in Columbus Ohio, I get down to that area twice a year for tours that I do with the club I belong to, they are TOSRV and CFC, do you do any of those??

No I haven't. I am kind of green when it comes to organized cycling, but I must say that I am intrigued. Where do these tours take place exactly? I hear there is an extensive Rails to Trails system around here... I hope to attempt my first "metric" by June riding from Columbus to Yellow Springs (John Bryan State Park).

Welcome, RareVos.
This is a nice place to hang out. I hope you like it. It's good to have this kind of place when there's no interest in your calling, from the usual people in your day to day life.

Well RareVos, TOSRV starts in downtown Columbus, at the Hyatt on capitol square and the capitol it's self..It goes down to portsmouth, 100 down there and then sunday 100 miles back up to Columbus...Rest and food stops every 25 miles or so...There are a lot of people that do it, so it's advised to sign up early......Here is the website for it. www.tosrv.org
The other one that I do, is very difficult and hilly, it's normally at the end or sept. or begining of oct...It's called CFC and goes from Lancaster to either Athens or Marietta...Very difficult, but if you love hills like I do, a very good ride.....Check out the COP's website for that one...www.outdoor-pursuits.org

Hey Ben,
Thank you for the info. The TOSRV sounds like a fun ride as long as there aren't too many cattle or tractor crossings on the trail, lol. Pretty farm country all the way down there. The CFC sounds intersting as well... I lived in Athens for several years and originally hail 30 minutes from there, 40 minutes from Marietta... yes, very hilly indeed.

You're welcome RareVos, yeah both of them are fun rides, maybe you'll get to do them...Let me know if you want to do that Tosrv one this year, I ride normally with the club I go with, but maybe you'd like to join in on it..

Well, to be honest I don't know that I'll be ready to knock-out out consecutive centuries (or even a single one) by May 10th. But I'd like to... I'll have to see what kind of shape I'm in by April, and if there is any registration room left. I am emailing their volunteer coordinator right now to see what I can do to assist if I cannot do the tour. Thanks again for the information =)

Yeah whatever works out for you, I know I remeber when I used to think and feel the same way about doing two centuries that early in the season, so I know what you're talking about...But hey maybe you will be in shape and be able to do one or both day's!!?? you never know eh??.....But if it dosen't work out, that's a good idea to get in on it by voulenteering, good way to get broke into it, and then maybe next year you'll be able to ride it...
No problem on the info, maybe I'll see you there and we could possibly meet..
Take care,
Benjamin
