I have done a lot more distance this year as compared to last. My longest ride last year was 55 leading up to my HIM, and suprise suprise I ate it hard, went from a 24 mph average at mile 40 to 22.5 by the end. Last year I was right around 10 hours per week.
This year I have been averaging more in the 12-14 hours per week range and for the next few weeks I will be around 18-20. With a few rides of 80 and over so far, my aim is to get out and do the IMWI course at the end of the year at over 20 mph. Also, I just picked up a membership to a athletic club so I'm swimming on my lunch break. I have been putting off the speed work but today was the point known as "go time". From my log which hopefully by the end of the year I'll have a good enough website to show people...
"Got up after a couple of snoozes of the alarm clock and hit the road for a really average 6, 6:30 pace.
Swim was ridiculous today, 8 x 100 on the 95, but I was coming in under 80 leaving +15 seconds rest. If I could string those back to back to back to back to back, etc... I'd be in around 11:00 at my next race... and I'm dreaming... 1500 meter total for the day
Got out on the bike and went between 25-30(don't feel like checking my odometer). 2 x 9 miles HARD, first 9 at about 25 mph, second 9 at about 24.5. Passed a roadie who drafted me for 1.5 miles. When I pulled over and waved him up just to say hi he thought I wanted him to lead and all I heard him say was, "barely hold... draft" and away I went. I wasn't trying to drop him, just doing my workout.
I'm going to need my rest the from here to Sunday, race day. More LSD(long slow distance)."
I know some people are done with their season come August but my A race is well into August. Anyone else feeling like their learning something this year? Training harder or tapering? Give me your stories and updates.
