Mountain Biking - National Bike Registry anybody do this?

I bought a Kryptonite Lock and it had a National Bike Registry card that says for $10 they will enter my bike in a database that will help my bike be returned to me if stolen. Any one have this work for them?

HEuu Tell me if I am not right but ... is it the Kryptonite lock that a few years ago had to bring back all the lock because they discovered that we could open it with pen... I think that it would be safer with a lock like that to register your bike :p

They did a recall on all of their locks and changed their design. They are pretty much the best bike lock you can buy.

At least they were willing to replace all of the locks once they discovered the problem. Most companies would have said tough cookies, either that or went out of business trying to do the recall.

Even if you could eventually recover it through the Registry, I'm sure you wouldn't want what was left of it. Your best insurance besides locking is, literally, insurance. For just a few dollars a year, you can get a rider on your homeowners policy that covers your bike (or computer or whatever) as a 'listed' or 'scheduled' property. Your bike is then covered for its full replacement value and NOT subject to the homeowners policy's usual deductible. Talk to your insurance agent.

My LBS just got two bikes returned to them this week because of that registry. The number is linked to the LBS which is linked to you.

Remember to engrave your DL# somewhere like on the bottom or something and put a light coat of clear or something so it don't rust.

Just note your serial number down. Got back 2 of my 3 stolen bikes I had serials on returned that way.
However, as was noted above, you probably don't want your bike back afterwards. Mine weren't in very good condition, though one became rather usable after a few days of wrenching.
Both of my bikes were found after thier riders were arrested for other crimes while on the bikes.

And it will come back as a frame withn X-mart parts.
They swap out all the parts after its stolen and ebay the parts. Frames get sold to the local crackhead as it can be traced.
Get a good lock and use it when not ;parked in view, this includes garages.
You can get homeowners coverage, but ours was cancelled after making a $5k bike claim.

and they offer four types of registration:

$10 will cover a bike for 10 years.
$25 will cover a bike for 30 years.

When you replace your current bike, contact NBR for a new label and certificate, limit one bike at a time.

$25 Family Registration will cover up to 5 bikes at a single address. Each bike is registered for 10 years.
