I got my road bike today!! I built it up so fast I I don't even remember opening the box. It's a Specialized Allez Elite, and stock it weighs in at 18 pounds, with junker pedals. This is officially the first, brand new "real" bike I have ever had. I am so use to riding out of date junk that I keep running with duct tape, and when something doesn't break I wonder whats wrong, that I can hardly believe this bike is mine . It is so cool! I tried to put my old shimano LOOK imitations on it, but the bike rejected them and said, "I am to high class for those pieces of junk, get me some real pedals, like Time impacts, or the NEW shimano pedals, or get lost." What can I do/say??? I guess I'll head to the shop tomorrow;)

The carbon is soooooooooooooooooo nice.

Dude you must be hardcore! 4000+ posts on a cycling BBS and you're just getting your first new bike. That's love of the sport and not just another consumer looking to blow a few dinero.

Congrats on the bike. POST PICS!!!

Peace y'all,
Lou

I've got a Gary Fisher MTB (steel Mt Tam) that I've put tons of money into(X-vert fork, SRAM 9.0 shifters, 7.0 rear der, XT front der, and a hodgepodge of other stuff) and for a road bike I have a Bianchi Sport sx that is 17 years old(one year younger then me...) I worked from August through January at the LBS saving up for a bike, and it's finally here.. I can't wait to log some loooong hours on it.

Hey fubar!

I thought the Allez was aluminum. Are you talking about the carbon fork that is sooooooo nice?

fubar5
02-05-03, 09:43 PM
Captain Crunch, yeah, I'm talking about the carbon fork. It's so smooth and cool looking. I love the wheels though, they are the coolest thing on the bike...except for me that is..

I took her on a maiden voyage this evening after school. It's kinda wierd riding a bike that light..

Glad to hear you are enjoying the new ride...

My LBS has a 02 specialized elite at a really sweet price I have been drolling over for a week or so.

Looks like I may know what I am gonna do with all this overtime I been working.

What kind of wheels and components did you have put on it? And we're all still waiting for the pictures.

It sounds like a great ride.

Wellll....Lessee hmmm..Campy carbon cranks, shifters, ders..(is that record? I dunno) Spinergy carbon wheels. j/k

It's stock, which is kind of annoying. I need to get something to put on there to make it officially my bike. Maybe a sexy stem or handle bars..Or better yet, cranks.

Anyway, it has,

Shimano 105 STI shifters
105 front der. triple
105 rear
Strongarm triple cranks, Octalink splined(kinda ugly, nothing wrong performance wise)
Specialized 3d forged stem
Specialized pro bars
Specialized C2 carbon fork, alloy steerer(which frankly, I prefer)
Specialized carbon seatpost
Body geometry saddle
Alex EXA aerorims ( 16 spoke front, 20 rear I think, 2 1/2 inch deep rims)
Alex hubs(not sure how these place in the Alex lineup, but they are smooth)

For the price, 1040, this bike is killer. The only other thing I've seen that catches my eye is the Douglas Motive by colorado Cyclist. It's 1099 and has Velomax wheels, 105 stuff, and a good paint job, IMO. The Elite only came in brushed when I got it. I think they have a blue double available now as a late release.
