Classic & Vintage - How much should I ask for these bikes?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So for those of you who remember, I brought home my old road bike and another one that my father had salvaged some years ago. Here's what I can glean about them:

One mid-late '80s Nishiki Rally 10-speed, 24" wheels, Suntour components and Dia-compe brakes. Frame in excellent condition, no rust.

One Columbia 10-speed of unknown vintage. 27" wheels, Suntour (I think) and Dia-compe. Frame in good condition, no rust but a couple of scrapes.

I was thinking about asking $100 for each of them. Is this sky-high, too low, or about right? The proceeds would go a long way to helping me buy an older bike that's actually my size, the Nishiki being far too small and the Columbia being a bit too tall.

Is this sky-high? Yes.

Yes.

That was mind-blowingly helpful.

How much, then, is an appropriate price? $50?

This is one of those questions where a location in your profile would be helpful...

If you are in NYC, then you actually might get $100 if you run into the right buyer.

Other factors are bike size.

I wouldn't pay $100 for either of those bikes, but if I were interested, and it was local, I would need to know more before I could tell you what I am willing to pay...

Pictures are often helpful in appraising and/or selling a bike.

If your Ross has a 3 piece cotterless crank and reasonable omponents (I don't know Ross enough to know what their usual bikes have) it might be worth $50 in most areas of the country.

In valuing your bikes, look at eBay and see what similar bikes have sold for... You will fiond overpriced bikes on eBay and Craigslist, but ignore those that have high prices and no bids.

Last month I could havr bought a used 10 speed from the bike shop I use for under $100, and that was one that was pepared and checked by a pro.
