I had to drop off my bike today because it had a broken spoke and I'm pretty sure both tires should be replaced - there is threads coming off the side area near the rims.
I guess getting it by afternoon tomorrow isn't too bad - but I usually do my hardcore riding at night. I feel safe enough because I stay on the lit streets and carry mace and alternate my routes. But tonight - no bike! And I want to ride it. It makes me wish I had a bike to ride on backup for situations like this. XD
I've been sitting on my bed or computer chair all night, arguing with my brain.
Brain: You should ride something!
Me: My bike is in the shop!
Brain: (5 minutes later) You should ride something!
Me: Argh. =(
Anyways figured someone might get a kick out of it. I'm sure I'm not the first nor the last in this spot.
my volpe is in the shop, i'm getting it tomorrow just a tune up. the shop was super busy though, i dropped it off sunday and just getting tomorrow. yikes.

just find a picket fence...remove a few pickets, streaddle the top bar, and use one of the pickets as a mock handlebar, and sit there nad make pedalig motions while singing songs in italian.
Given behaving like that might get you put in the asylum though, so performer beware.

Three bike minimun for this cyclist. Odds are against them all being in the shop at the same time.
You need more bikes. I have six, three of which are in permanent repair mode, but the other three are always ready to roll.

Broken spoke- worn out tyres? Sounds like a new bike is on the way. Keep the old one as a spare- just so you don't wear out the new one too quickly. + the fact that it takes time to sort a new bike and the old one always feels comfortable.
I ride a tandem and there is no way I can afford a spare one of these so have a Bianchi mountain bike- Giant Road bike- A couple of older road bikes that DO need renovation, a GTMountain type bike that doesn't get used much now and an old 3 speed beater bike that is well insured but nevers seems to get stolen.
Then to cap it all- I do all my own repairs-(Except wheel rebuilding) and have to have a Big Bike shed to keep it all in.
Definitely think about the new bike- You know you are worth it.

I was feeling your pain until I got a call from the shop saying my bike was ready. Yeah, I did a little happy dance :D

I too feel your pain. I ordered a new frame which arrived at the lbs last Friday. I took my Trek 1200 over to have the parts transferred over and the process started smoothly. Then the shop owner found out that the fork was not long enough for the new frame. His supplier did not have the appropriate fork in stock so, while at the lbs, I ordered a new fork via computer.
But wait...it gets better. The company I'm getting the frame and fork from said their server messed up and they didn't get the order until yesterday....Tuesday.
The company said they were sorry and 'helped' with the price of the fork but I have been without a road bike for almost a week, and my fat but needs to ride.
But wait...it gets better. I recently gave away my mtn bike.

Solution: Teach yourself how to work on your bike. Replacing tyres and a spoke are simple tasks well within your reach.
I also like the idea of having more than one bicycle.

Yes it had a broken spoke and the wheels are a bit worn but keep in mind this bike is either a '01 or a '02 - probably the former. I have had it a long time so I expect stuff to go sooner or later. I could just see some of you pointing out little tidbits on my bike saying 'See? You don't know when that might go next...get another bike just in case!' Awesome. ;)
Uh, if you have threads sticking out the sides of the tires, they are not a bit worn. Still, when you get a new bike, it just has to be significantly better and/or different than the old one, or what's the point. Ride the oldie, and start saving so you can seriously research the new bikes. The oldie becomes a spare, of course.
