Sorry, but gotta vent.
This January I found a fraudulent activity on my credit card account, that someone had used my credit card (Chase) to purchase flight tickets in Austrailia (a flight from Brisbane to Sydney... Gosh I wish I did got on that flight). I called the credit card company, close the account, request investigation and also what I should do so that they won't report to the credit bureaus... They say I'm ok since this is fraud.
Next month I still got a statement, so I called them back and same response. No problem, nothing will be reported. However I kept receiving statements in the following months, every month I call back, same answer. In May I thougth I had enough, call the company, fight, and THEN they remove the balance... but still tell me nothing has been reported and I'm fine.
Well guess what, when I was working to get a home loan last month, I found out my credit score plummetted around 100 points since January... Turns out those at chase actually reported me as having late payment... Now they really screwed me up well.
I call them back, write certified letters asking to fix this (tell the credit bureaus that this is not late payment), but today I got a letter from them saying they didn't find anything wrong and that I did make a late payment (geez... I never paid... they removed the balance) and they won't ask the credit bureaus to correct this!
Now what should I do? I'm just thinking now... I'll be calling them again tomorrow, but I feel I try to go as smooth as possible? Any suggestions? Sue them? but ain't got no money for an attorney... I feel so disempowered and helpless. I read the web and find out that I have this and that right, but pretty much the conclusions are there isn't much you can do unless you really try hard and put a lot of effort and time to fix it... Especially that I've only been calling them until I was screwed, there isn't much evidence that I can use to do anything about them. Gosh I can't believe all this mess happened even when I've been doing so much to prevent something exactly like this from happening! Thinking about the negligence and incompetence of the credit card company I just feel so bad.
Why is all the power regarding the crucial information of myself are in the hands of those who doesn't care about me?
God what a mess.. I seriously do feel like a dud...
