General Cycling Discussion - anyone carry a hanky?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I carry one whenever I leave the house, except when I go ride my bike. I have decided to start carrying when I ride my bike too. Anyone here carry when they ride? how do you carry? Fanny pack?

I always carry one since I usually ride with a group. I don't want to accidently blow a snot rocket on a friend.

Yes, mate I also carry a "hanky" . I've carried a farmers bandanna for
decades finding it to useful for way more than blowing my nose. I good
ol' farmers bandanna can be a bandage , a scarf, a sweat rag, etc. so
yes, I carry one always. ;) ;) ( I carry the bandanna anyway I can
incuding tied on the bike somewhere.)

I carried a bandanna for a while for the bugs.
Then I was used to my morning protein snack and left it at home.
I bike year round and my nose is always running. Winter it is the dry air. Summer is allergy season.
Snot rockets are the way to go for efficiency.

Johnny......it seems from the posts thus far this topic will draw either all the unwashed
barbarians or the tolls who just want to smart off. Either way don't look for many sane
responses. It's hard to believe that manners have been eroded this bad but alas it's true. :(

Carry one but hopefully never use it on a ride. Always carry it up my left sleeve, so it is readily available. Don't like putting it back there once its used though.

I carry a complete outfit of hankies in my trailer along with my supply of LAW rockets. Unlike the ordnance, however, I rarely have to use them.

Bandanna in a jersey pocket.
I got tired of having "sweat streaks" on my glasses, so I threw a bandana in my jersey pocket. I had a drip, pulled over at wide spot in the road (mentally congratulating myself on my superior planning skills) and proceed to smear my glasses with my sweat soaked bandana. :(
I keep it in the seat bag now. :)
I'm a recent convert to hanky. They rock, if soft.
I agree with Stacy.
Snots rockets while bicycling, disposable kleenex indoors.
If that makes us Barbarians, so be it. I'm in good company.

I try to carry a classic white one all the time. It actually bugs me when I forget it.

I sure do. I use it to clean my guns off.
Bandana in the back pocket of my jeans. I still blow snot rockets while riding, though.

Small pack of tissues in my rack-pack.
Two cotton handkerchiefs, in my fanny pack and in the little compartment at the back of the rack-pack. Used mostly for wiping sweat and getting chain grease off my hands.

A "hanky"? You aren't from Pittsburgh are you?

Bandana in the back pocket, always. It was a habit I got into during high school.

I ride with a handlebar bag with 3 bandannas (among other things) - one for wiping sweat off of my face, one for snot, and one for bike maintenance/chain wipe-down, etc...

Um? Okay?
I am not a toll!
OooOoOooO! Wait! I cost 50 cents to drive through.
What exactly does manners have to do with snot rockets? It's not like I launch one off in a pace line. *shrugs*
Actually, I wait until there is no one around. That would pretty much be all the time on my commute.
As for unwashed barbarian, I shower, shave my head legs and face, dress nicely, brush my teeth, etc
Could you explain how I can clean up better? I really must know! :D

The last time I had hankies they were tied over my head and face like a ninja so I could play with my friends with our pot metal toy samurai swords. After that, my mom never did buy me anymore.
Anyone carry a Mr. Hanky?

I'd rather have someone carry around a snot rag to blow their nose than hawking up on the street. In London, especially in Winter, the streets are covered in snot and mucus and it is really disgusting. You have to watch where you walk and it's not something you like to see when you've just eaten.
You may think it's gross for someone to use a hanky but at least you're not exposed to their snot.

How do you clean off the residue of snot that is invariably left after a snot rocket? Do you use you fingers, gloves, or sleeve? If you use your fingers do you then wipe then on your handlebar tape or on your clothes?
I carry all the time now, in one of my jersey/jacket pockets so I don't have to stop.

Back of the arm/hand works for me. Tho' sometimes, if I'm in a hard climb, I'll just lick it off. Protien, ya know.

Gee, I don't know. The exit is clean. There's no mess. I'm just good at snot rockets, I suppose.
Or maybe it's the hot, dry air in So Cal. My commute home yesterday was 100ºF (38ºC).
But to be sure, I buy only cycling gloves that have fleece on the back! Any minor residue quickly dries. There, in a nutshell, is my take on the hankie issue.
And hey, you can wash your cycling clothes after a ride! :D
What do soccer players do when they have to blow their nose during a game? I never saw too many hankies out there when I played. :D
..and I would not snot or spit on the sidewalk either.
London is a wonderful place, and I can assure you I have never, nor never would, defile the sidewalks with spit or snot.
Even we unwashed Barbarians have standards!

Football players only foul their own nest as it were.
London is a $hithole IMO.

I carry two, one in my jersey pocket for nose use and one in my pack for wiping sweat from my sunglasses. Also good to get the bugs off when you ride through a swarm of nats

Dear Lord! This is the 21st century, why are you troglodytes carrying hankies with you on a bicycle? What possible eventuality could you hope to prevent from such a heinous act? I, for one, am glad I live in the UK where boogers are a thing of ancient history.

Called bogies here. I think.
The word to use in polite company is 'snot'.
