Looks like a tough day in the saddle vette.. Definitely one that would require some serious training for. I suppose our equivalent would be the Audax Alpine Classic in January. My biggest days have been the 210km Around the Bay rides but there are no climbs on those.

Yep, the event is the end of October, and training starts in the next couple of weeks. A bunch of us are having a four day training camp three weeks out to top up on hills.

Will Cadel finally show some form?
Is Floyd doing it too easy?
Is Menchov a real GC contender?

Floyd floats my boat :)

Cadel will ride in the autobus, Floyd will win by 30 minutes doing wheelies like Robbie over the line. Menchov will go over the line in tha back of the team car drinking vodka after abondoning on the first climb.

Now after showing my intelligence I need another dumb question answered. Last night they were making a big thing of Merkx coming back and helpping Floyd get up the hill, pacing him or whatever. I don't get that. How can someone help someone ride up a hill. It's not like he's breaking the wind they're going so slow. It gives me the ****es havign some nob ride in front of me what I'm trying to get up big hills.

62vette

There might be a very small advantage to being drafted up a hill, plus they're doing it much faster than you or I would.

badsac
07-18-06, 11:53 PM
I heard them saying last night they'd be doing 8 or 9 mile and hour up some of those hills.

Ok, I'm going with Klodi again.

In his interview on Eurosportsnews this morning, Cadel basically said he wasn't good enough on the day, not sure what is going on there but hopefully he can bounce back.

I know Tiger, I know its plastic etc... but as a pure race bike, you cant argue it's a nice piece of kit..?

Oh yeah, and nice arete Ti plug in this months aus cycling!

62vette
07-19-06, 12:57 AM
I'd probably be doing 8 or 9 kmh in those circumstances.

The 595 looks pretty trick especially the seat post. And it has a whole new fork too.

Floyd will defend but won't win the stage. Someone not in todays break will most likely snatch it.

I think the advantage is largely psychological ie. you don't need to think about anything else, just follow the guy in front of you. There is certainly no aerodynamic advantage at those speeds.

Seems that PowerBar is using unfair tactics to promote its product:

Alpe d'Huez. SBS cut to too many furkin ads while the race was on the last climb.

If I see that 'Skins' ad again with that bloke out of the movie Snatch doing the voiceover with his 'say it, don't spray it' speech impediment I'm gonna scream.

mmmm, Hitchy like!...unfortunately funds don't run to a new frame these days....so I'll just have to bust the 486 (again) & get it replaced under warranty....hmmmm 'big ring' hill sprints with a mate sitting on the top tube should do the trick! (again) :D

Hang on pshaw, you mean I actually got some press from an Aussie mag? No friggen way!

That Look looks okay for Tupperware. Still, when you can get something custom and handmade for the same price, why you'd want to attempt to squeeze on to one of the 5 sizes available is a complete mystery to me. Blah blah blah, you know the spiel

can any of you techos help me with a gearing problem? im riding campy record 06 and have been doing so for a few weeks and they have been fantastic. then all of a sudden yesterday i seem to have a rear deraillier problem...when i try to change to the biggest sprocket at the back it attempts to do so but then falls back down to the second biggest sprocket....this problem is indpendant of whether im in the big or small cog at the front.

is this a common problem? any obvious fix (im being lazy by posting here i know but i thought someone might know whats occuring??)??

It'll be cable tension and/or maybe the L screw needs a wee bit of adjustment. Most likely cable though. Try tightening the cable a wee bit till it stays in the big cog.

Actually no, I don't know all this. When we started doing the Ti frames I e-mailled every publication in Australia saying "Hi guys, we're of one of only two companies currently sell custom Titanium bikes in this ******** land, isn't that cool" to which I got the response "Yeah, okay. Thanks. Keep in touch."

I recently sold a 221d to a guy in Sydney who writes for a few mags including cyclingnews.com, and he basically said to me that I would get no coverage unless I bought advertising space. So, essentially every "test" in cyclingnews is paid for, yet they don't say that on the actual "test" which breaches a dozen or so media laws as well as being unethical. Coz it's not news, it's advertising.

So there you go. cyclingnews.com = bullsh¡t.

However, Mountain Biking Australia and Cycling Australia don't require payoffs, so kudos to them for actually having some standards.

---

Existence, you need to adjust your rear derailleurs ability to move up, which usually requires a phillips head screwdriver and a little screw near the rear derailleurs 'knuckle' labeled either 'L' or 'H'. I always get confused which is which.
You'll know you've adjusted it to far when your derailleur gets eaten by the spokes or your chain slips off the top of the biggest cog and destroys your rear wheel.

None of which would be a problem when I put your 07 Record UT group on your Tephra CTi. ;)

One of the oz mags - I think it was Ride - gave a dud review to a bike. Can't remember which brand, but they were a massed produced Al jobby out of Taiwan if I remember correctly.
Apparently there were threats of legal action over the poor review.

+1 great call...i just came back to say two things - i think liggett is losing his touch a little (still a legend but) and secondly - if you only have 4 commercial sponsors for the broadcast why dont sbs put an avanti, maquarie bank, skins and renault sign perminently on the top of the screen and just leave the coverage running...im sick of being taken to an ad break every 3 minutes..

Well, if the corporations actually used the smaller more affordable and innovative designers, they'd not blow their load on one advert that loses it's impact after the second viewing, but three of four actually interesting ones.

Anyway, I can't complain. Gives me time to deposit the useless part of all this sav blanc I'm drinking.

Sadly, no bree and baguettes though.
