What on earth is he doing to that saddle!

Still on the topic of Landis, has anyone else noticed his odd pedalling style? He sort of "flaps" his feet as he gets toward the bottom of the stroke, it was really obvious last night with Sinkewicz sitting so close behind him and pedalling in a more conventional style.

Dear Bikeforums,
I was wondering, should I pedal in circles, or pedal toes down, or should I push down with the toes on the downstroke and up with the ankles on the upstroke?

HELP! It's really confusing! Oh, and how should I steer? Should the handlebars move from side-to-side like that? Should my elbows be bent? Where do I put my hands? HELP!

Hey lookie that, it's true! I got some free press!

for some reason i pedal like that too - ive only been riding a road bike for 5 months or so and i just seem to want to pedal that way too (oh the shame of being associated with landis eats me up). i did do some homework on the biomechanics of it and apparently its not optimal as the ratio of force to energy output becomes more inefficient due to the contraction of the calf muscles along with the more traditional hip flexors and hamstrings at the bottom and upward sector of crank rotation (i.e fatigue increases at a faster rate at any given increase in wattage). i still havent found any studies that have tested techniques with any sort of controlled, independant methodology.

im not completely sold on that theory as there are numerous counter arguements that come to mind. im madly saving for a power tap so i can run my own tests...biomechanics is such a fickle field if you ask me and utterly discretionary by its very nature.

does anyone else pedal like a ******?

you know when you walk in a bra shop (oh shut up!!! you know you all do it just like me...right?...right!!??:p ) have you noticed how they go about selling them? people need to be sold a dream.

that was a golden opportunity to 'pimp' one of your rides and make a potential buyer drool...showing pictures of just the bare frame is like walking into your local pub with no pants on....sure your being honest and showing the ladies what they are getting themselves in for but its just not the way to win them ova...they need to be sold the dream too lol ;)

Hey! Didn't Rick Astley perform a song called "Disco Duck"? Is there a conspiracy here? Has Ed been secretly training Floyd using his collection of cool music? Enquiring minds wish to know. :p

I'm ashamed to admit that I can correct you on the Disco Duck thing Matagi. It was a seppo DJ called Rick Dees.

The 70s were a mix of the sublime and the truly ridiculous - the Rolling Stones finest years, the birth of punk and new wave, and *shudder* disco.

Rick Astley is as guilty of as many music crimes as Rick Dees.

Actually no, Rick Dees is far more perfidious, he's been spinning bad pop music and he does that horrible American Top 40 thing that gets syndicated around the world. Like we need to know what seppos are listening to.

The only time I really think about my pedalling style is when I'm struggling on the hills and tell myself to keep my heels down.

Hey guys. I haven't been around for a while and probably won't get a chance to come back for a longer while...Mrs Wattsy and I have started separation proceedings. She's a career lady and I'm a bit old fashioned. End result haas been that last few years in conflict about where she should spend her time...Yes Matagi...I know, I should be respecting her right to live her life.

Bottom line is that we had a fight last Thursday and all hell broke loose. Monday night we sat down and had the most difficult conversation of our lives. We have decided to try councelling and are committed to trying to make this work, but I suspect too much damage has been done to both of us. We have been together now for 23 years and she is all I know, so I am pretty devostated at the moment. Fortunately we are both respecting each other and trying to do right for our two kids.

Sorry to bring the forum down, but I'm hoping that sharing some of my burdon anonymously will help...time will tell.

Mate...real sorry to hear this...work hard at it...if it's to be, it'll work out in the end

i have no idea how your supposed to do that scrape the mud off thing, i jhsut cant get that happening. from what ive read your foot is supposed to be flat then you lift your ankle on the up stroke? too much to think about!

only time i conciously lift on the upstroke is when im fast cadence - tech climbing on the MTB. otherwise its toes down ( comes naturally, is that a good thing??) and pedal like im pulling my knees towards the handle bars if that makes sence....

Flandis is originally from Pennsylvania, moved to California to ride mountain bikes.
Weird flapping style? Ankling? isn't that what Anquetil did? yah, thought so.
Also look at Cipo he sorta had the same style.

Guess der Jan won't be crushing anyone after this . . .

Olivia is a pom as well isn't she and Kylie might as well be considering she's lived here for about 20 years.

AC/DC are Scots aren't they (except for Johnston who's a Geordie)?

When the weather picks up, I think the SydneySiders/ Central Coasters on TAT will need to organise a ride followed by a "barbie". Any takers? Any thoughts on a ride?

Not excluding the mexicans or kiwis btw...

I would join a Sunday group ride with a BBQ for lunch.

The group ride could go to centennial Park or Lane Cove National Park or Bicentennial Park for a BBQ.

Since we are (kinda) talking about music at the moment:

I bought The Postal Service - Give Up and Bloc Party - Silent Alarm today. I have been wanting both albums for a while but finally got off my arse and got them. Both are excellent albums although Silent Alarm does seem to go on for a bit too long. And if you dont like Such Great Heights by the Postal service something is wrong with ya.

Sister got Placebo - Meds and the 2nd and 3rd album by Radiohead. I dont particulary like radio head but Meds is a good album. The only thing wrong with it is it is copy protected but for some strange reason I was able to rip it using CDex but the cd doesnt show up in itunes.
