First we get assorted carbon based lifeforms leading out the players at the World Cup and now we get the TdF guys parading various offspring. The teams area must look like a creche!

This new trend could create problems for the childless participants in the TdF. I can see it now .... infants ripped from their mothers arms and velcroed to the headstem as the peleton thunders through small towns and villages.

New category at next year's Tour could be "trail-a-bike". :D Leader/winning rider & kid combination get to wear matching Wiggles jerseys.

In keeping with the theme of mentioning anything else about the Tour except the Mantis.....I thought Stuey O'Grady proved he is a hard man with his results in the final two stages:
21st in the ITT - only 9 seconds behind Mick Rogers
3rd in the final sprint on the Champs-Elysees

Pretty impressive for a guy who broke bones in his back on stage 4

Stu rode pretty well, all things considered. Made an incredible (Ed might prefer to say 'unbelievable') comeback from his fall earlier this year just to make the tour.

Actually all 6 Aussies rode well (I include our adopted kraut Jens Voigt).

www.wsmtb.com is the club that runs races there, i think theres some pics incl some dodgy ones of me ( is there any other? ) from 4 hour enduros floating around on that site... other than that i dont htink theres much of a description besides a map.

It's either denial or apathy but I can't be bothered either confirming or denying.

We had terrific weather here all weekend as well.

I came in second in the TeamKoK polka dot jersey comp on Saturday. 120km including a 12km 300m climb. We all got dropped one by one in the first 3kms of the climb by our resident animal with three of us grouping back up for a mini bunch sprint at the top that left our oldest and lightest rider dry retching in the nearly melted snow at the side of the road :eek:. Silly bugger doesn't know when to back off. There's nothing like a little friendly competition to max out the heart rate.

I was absolutely poked yesterday as a result, and was happy to stop and help one of the juniors with a puncture on Sunday's club training ride so I had an excuse to avoid the sprint at the end of the beach.

I think I have worked out the obsession some of our 'merican brethren have with lightweight bits and bobs. It's to compensate for all additional the crap they carry on each ride. i.e. pepper spray, handgun, full workshop toolchest, cell phone, camera, laptop, GPS, packed lunch, change of clothes. :roflmao:

i like the place, thats all the advice i can offer! if you go off the main trail section you can find some parts of the older race tracks that arent in use much any more. its nothing like ourimbah, so dont go expecting that. i think you would like it. big race fields out there, with 100 - 150 ppl turning up on race day, so there must be somthing going for it!

its also not too bad in the wet as it seems to hold togeather quite well.

it's fun being on a forum that you totally don't give a crap about, and when some power-tripping moderater gives you a warning via a private message, you can just say "fark off, loser" :)

yes, i have a place ( well my parents do!) up the coast so its pretty easy for me to get to those places, jsut finding the time is hard, esp being in the midst of selling my soul, oh, i mean organising my wedding.

Rocky technical sections is where i fall to pieces, so i like to avoid them if possible!

Glenrock and Killingworth are on the cards to ride tho. i was intending on perhaps going to killingworth for a race this season but it doesnt look like thats going to happen.

HAve been commuting to work most days for the past couple of weeks via MTB, but with all the rain its really not worth venturing into lane cove nat park. hence im looking likley at rocking up this weekend at yarramundi having not come clsoe to single track for the past 3 or so weeks :o

Forums are just one of those weird things. They're privately owned so technically if you own one you can do whatever they heck you like as long as it doesn't break any laws. I'm not sure whose laws you go by anyway considering most of these things are maintained in one country, admin'd in another, and frequested by people all over the world.

Most forum owners are pretty good and run a professional ship, but some are just downright fascists. I have ZERO respect for the people who run the Serotta board because they don't even have the common courtesy to warn you if you've been naughty - they just ban you for a month, then don't bother reinstating you pursuant to their Terms and Conditions no matter how many e-mails you send them.
Their forum is just a publicity tool for themselves, and I think in retrospect I shouldn't have even gone there because anyone that does is just riding their coattails, and all it does is validate their unprofessional behaviour and blue-blood conservatism and lack of balls to be able to deal with a little competiton. Ironically, not that I am.

Now this Neil guy, I have no idea WTF is up with this guy. We were having a good old banter via PM one second - me making fun of him because he's a Scot and him having a go at me for being an Aussie - but then this one time I jokingly have a go at this circle jerk of a post....a ludacrous wånk-fest pat me on the back aren't we all wonderful post, he bans me.

It's really tough to get excited by a lug when you look at what guys like Keith Bontrager, Dave Turner and Paul Turner have achieved over the years. It's even tougher to get excited by a Madone or a guy who used to ride one coz Lance did.

However, I will get excited whenever I see a Lambo. Especially if it's a Gallardo.....in orange. :D

Anyone watch the replay of the Laguna Seca MotoGP? That has got to be some of the crappiest camera work seen for a long time.

Reckon if Suzuki can sort out their problems, Chris Vermuelen might even have a chance at a podium position. He rode a brilliant first half, until his tyres started to pack it in - heaven only knows why he went with a medium rear (unless the bike has problems with hard compound tyres)

I have discovered one downside to watching the TdF coverage. It has given me a VERY low tolerance for commentators' verbal diarrhoea. Watched most of the last stage with the sound muted and was seriously tempted to do the same to the MotoGP commentary.

Speaking of which Top Gear is on SBS right now.

ah ye of little faith., the tyres were fine. he lost fuel pressure in the last 5 laps, hence why the bike stopped 3 corners from the end! apparanrly it was cutting in an out when he got off the throtle. Bad luck to Stoner and either he or Vermulen has a great chance of being podium regulars. Vermulen is at least on pace, if not outpacing Hopkins who is quite highly regarded, so thats a great sign for him, great to see him kicking some assos as i was a big fan of his in WSBK.

not the greatest motoGP race ever, but still a lot better than most other racing on teevee. im hoping Hayden can hold on for the title. WSBK was great as wel.

Nah, he was having problems well before lap 27, his rear end was sliding all over the shop.

Yeah agree, they looked pretty terminal. I'm not much of a Rossi fan, so I'm glad this season hasn't turned out to be the usual parade of Rossi leading and the rest just fighting it out for the other places. Makes it much more interesting (a bit like this year's TdF :p )

Yeah, the skipping between segment thing was a bit too quick, but then it is meant to be a send-up of those silly rolling news channels like CNN and the like.

I thought the missing island thing was quite funny, ditto the football scoreboard and there were some silly things going past on the "crawler" at the bottom of the screen. Might give it a go next week, and see if it improves at all.

I decided to end the 'nocturnal festival of velo' with a French dinner this evening, not a bad Provencale casserole to go with the pisspoor weather, and I had the pleasure of a Mercan woman and her teenage son at the next table. Poor lad bore a striking resemblance to one Msr. Landis I was chastened to note. A few moments of merriment such as when she proudly informed the waiter that her main had been ordinary until she mixed the remnants of her soup in. Towards the end we got the 'How much should I tip?' icebreaker. 'Oh 20% should be enough for average service':)

I had to ask the young fella if he was there celebrating Ned's win, which he wasn't, but his mum seized the moment to get the details of the latest Mercan success story, which she followed up with a glowing tribute to Lance and a tsk tsk at that drugabusing German and that other one.

Well.... I took a deep breath, knowing full well I was about to destroy all chances of a root from my dinner companion, and launched into a lengthy impassioned, erudite treatise on the deceptions of Lanceyboy and his trained monkeys at the UCI et al. Poor thing was crestfallen.

I had to ask the young fella if he was there celebrating Ned's win, which he wasn't, but his mum seized the moment to get the details of the latest Mercan success story, which she followed up with a glowing tribute to Lance and a tsk tsk at that drugabusing German and that other one.
