Australia - New Zealand - The Aussie thread. . . part cinq.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I thought it was spelt with a D :p
So what are they worth?
I'm thinking of splashing out for the latest SSL's or the ES's if the budget permits....so I might be talked into parting with my SSC's (03's the originals)...rarely trained on...very good nick, shimano splined,....I could be talked into it for $550? (+ shipping)

So if i picked up a set of 05 SLs with a dura ace 10 speed cassette for $300....?
So nostrodamus, what's gonna happen tonite? Kloden? Rassmussen? Evans?
Don't think this stage suits the true climbers, more someone like vinny.... or .... EKIMOV

....you wouldn't want mine!!!...the cassette alone is worth $180 new...you've done well there....either that or you've mugged some bloke!

nostrildamus predicts a medium sized group will take time from the main bunch, expect to see cadel, kloden, hincapie, popo, landis etc all up there....
Landis to lose time when the action heats up.
Kloden to be strong but wilt in the last ITT.
your thoughts?

Mine are the 03 SSC's as well. But with Campy. Checked out the latest SSL's with the red bling spoke the other day. Look pretty nice but for the same cash you could get some pretty sweet hand built puppies as thylo was saying....
Oh yeah...good get, pshaw - that's a killer Scottish deal :D

Hitchy, Soul-Kozak hubs with IRD Cadence rims and DT Supercomp spokes weigh in at about 1300g depending on how they're laced. I'd happily crash a set into you, if that's any indication :D
I can get Zipp404's for 2k Aussie if I can freight consolidate them. (ie: Ship them from overseas with other heavier stuff.)
I have to admit, if I could get them, I'd also be pimping Rolf Prima wheels. They are the kings of the prebuilt wheel world. Why they don't kill the Ksyrium farce is a complete mystery to me.
looks like Mayo will be coming home in the 'autobus' with the sprinters....what is it with Spanish climbers?, they promise so much, but rarely deliver (heras & the odd Vuelta accepted)

My brother had some Rolfs a few years back & had no end of dramas with them. Weren't Primas tho...I think they were vectors or summit like that. Ended up trading them for some hand built Mavic rim/chorus hub jobs.
Sounds like Rolf might have got better since then.
Honchar' s going of the back too...Looked like he was pushing something like 39/25....& it gets steeper the last couple o' k's before the summit.

Go part 5 I say.
I finally got the nod from the insurance company - YAY! Market value on my old bike (2002 aluminium GT with ultegra) is $1800, plus new lid and tights, I'm going to collect just under $2100. That leaves me about $500 short on the new bike and stack hat, but that's OK as I picked up a near new full carbon and ultegra bike that retails for $5000 for $2500.
Good work on the tool recovery bbw, and nice effort with the rewards.
How about waiting until the posts hit 10,000? Nice round number that. :)
Still got the same body fat % as when you were racing?
Errr....not quite.
Back on the airwaves after having my spinal column pumped full of cortisone on Tuesday. Feel a million bucks now!!

As long as it's better than Police Acedemy 5 or Rocky 5, no worries.
cortisone. Nasty business that. What'd you do, something exciting like herniated disc?
:o
Doh!
Hey Ed, what are you benching?

lets see that would take us to 500 (give or take) pages?
I'm just thinking this might load a bit faster, and lord knows we could use a
bit of speed round here.
I'll move the last 50 or so messages to the new thread for continuity's sake
(is there continuity here?)
and yes, it's your forum you do get a vote (just no polls).

Ok,
I've moved about 4 pages from the previous thread, if there is any content
that needs to be here let me know and I'll merge it in
(just send me post numbers from old thread).

So ya reckon Noike will knock us up some commemorative clobber with '5' on it?
Come to think of it, there's prolly still a shedfull of it out back of a sweatshop somewhere

 No lightweight carbon bars for your bike then - you'll have to put track sprinters bars on it!
Hope the back fixes up properly too.
No friggin wonder you have a herniated disk
I'm surprised your muscles haven't squeezed your innards out through your bellybutton too with those weights.

I don't really know what systems the Brits and the Maples have, but over here I think anyone can get specialist treatment of sorts under the public health system, but the waiting lists are so long you might be dead first. Having private health insurance allows you to jump the queue and pick and chose services/doctors more - i think.
Happy to be corrected by someone who actually knows tho :) I am fortunate enough so far not to have had much other than basic dealings with the medical system....touch wood.

The system is broadly speaking, similar in all 3 countries (very broadly speaking). You will get very good specialist treatment here in the public system and if you need urgent review, you can queue jump even as a public patient. Where things fall apart is with the so-called "elective" procedures, where waiting lists in the public system have blown out to ridiculous proportions. That's where private insurance comes in handy.
Of course, a properly funded and staffed public system would do away with most of the waiting lists but that is the stuff of fantasy these days. (and let's not get onto the subject of doctor and nursing shortages which are a worldwide problem)

Yeah, and some of us even go and play in their backyards once in a while. :D
If you are ever in the mood for a laugh, the "Living Car Free" and "Advocacy and Safety" forums are always full of assorted weirdos and high on entertainment value.

Kinda.
The Australian system is a blend of the US system and the British system. We allow private insurance and private working doctors and at the same time have a public health system much like the British. We do not have practices that are owned and run by the private insurers, that the US does have (HBOs I think they call them?)
We have long queues in the public system and the private system isn't going too well either. Since the private system can't really discriminate on customers (charging more for the unhealthy customers) and having a public system where the healthy go (why have insurance if you aren't gonna get sick and there is a system that will look after the worst injuries?) the private system has a tradgedy of the commons problem.
Hope that helps

Hitchy, if you or anyone else is after any parts, e-mail me. Trying to keep the hardcore product pimping off the boards or lotek will smack my bot-bot.
We still have to make you that Tephra Ti at some stage. Let us know when you get sick of the Look. :D

That's strong.
George Gregan is freakishly powerful....can squat 400lbs. Tiger Woods can bench 300 as well.
Here's a list of costs so far (that I can remember) not including what I can claim back from Medicare...
-4 weeks of chiro, twice a week at $35 a pop. X-rays were free, though. Back crooked as a dog's back leg.
-CT scan $380
-MRI scan $540
-initial neurosurgeon consultation $175
-tracton kit for home ~$150
-epidural during yet another CT scan (so he doesn't jab the wrong bit, I spose) $760. I collapsed on Monday, stayed on the living room floor for 3 hours before Icould try and stand up...so the epi was brought forward.
-drugs out of this world....valium, Prednisolone, Tramal, Mersyndol Forte, Norflex. No idea what I've spent on those.
Feel good now, though! Might be time to get back on the bike!
No friggin wonder you have a herniated disk
I'm surprised your muscles haven't squeezed your innards out through your bellybutton too with those weights.
Neuro put the films up on his light-panel thingy and said "weightlifter's back" in about 10 seconds. I got the distinct impression he'd seen it all before.
