The TAN sucks. For some reason, I can't post there. It's like the "Post reply" page just freezes. If I wanted to deal with buggered servers and such, I'll just stay here.

Um, guys, not to complain, but browsers? This is not the kind of head-butting, extreme fighting action I had been led to expect on TAT. Where's the melodrama? Where's the piss and vinagrette? You better spice it up or your ratings are gonna slide. Unless you're all just waking up and ain't had your cuppa yet, in which case I apologiz(s)e.

Cheers.

It's noon, Satdee. They should mostly be awake. Less posting during the weekend, they can't piss away their employer's high speed connection.

Hmmm.....is this even in English?......Do 'puter stuff?......but I'd have to put my 'crownie' down! :D....subscribing to threads is way to close to 'giving a stuff'....which is total against the constitution of TAT

Also, don't forget there's club racing on the weekends, so a lot of them are out on their bikes. Expect the action to pick up around 18:00 Australian Time.

Hmm I'm getting somewhere with the history of this.
Check out 100 years worth of maps of the middle east .... http://www.dartmouth.edu/~gov46/

So Palestine goes from being Ottoman (Turkish) and pretty much the whole of the middle east until WW1, when Britain promises an independent Arab state covering most of the Middle East in exchange for support in the war, which went well, but ahem, then we get the British Mandate of Palestine which then gets split up by the poms, and bits get handballed around with the french between the wars,
with almost exactly what is now Israel being called Palestine from September 11!!!,1922. Jewish population is 11%.
Talk of a Jewish homeland builds, is encouraged by Britain and Jewish immigration from Europe begins skyrocketing. Major land ownership disputes with the locals lead to a violent Arab uprising and so the Brits trained up an elite Jewish military force.
Then WW2, everyone starts attacking everyone else, the Brits want to get out, 1945 Jewish pop. 31%.

Oodles of different proposals to share the space, 1947 the UN majority decides to split the space into two states (Australia couldn't decide and abstained:o ) roughly 50-50, despite the population inbalance. Jerusalem itself supposed to stay 'international' (British controlled). The Arabs are NOT happy with the carveup, and the killing starts.
Meanwhile the neighbouring Arab states have emerged from colonialism and been encouraged by Britain to form the Arab League, but they're militarily distinct and well varied in strength.
The Israelis have been planning ahead and buying up weapons big time, and training.
1948 Britain gets out. War really starts. The US and the Soviets both denounce the Arabs for 'invading'.
Israel gradually kicks arse and eventually gets most of the land, keeps Jerusalem, and we're left with only two Palestinian "settlements" at the extreme southwest (Gaza) and east(West Bank). Refugees all over from both sides. Reprisals all round.

It hasn't really got much better since then. And I reckon the Arabs got screwed out of their land pretty royally, and it wasn't just by the Jews, although they picked up the ball and ran with it given the chance. Some huge deceits by the West all the way through.
And every attempt by the Arabs to defend their turf gets labelled 'terrorism'. I dunno why they get explosive shirty.

You 'dunno' but you're not letting it stop you - attaway, mate!

Once you've delved deeper than the last century - say, perhaps the last 3 - 3.5 millennia - then come & declare it's their (Arab) turf and that the Israelis are the foreign element. Let us know when the 'Palestinian people' came into being.

is it safe to come back here now? i mean we seem to have gotten our own way which i like - our thread is returned and we have seen off the evil one...and the sticky doesnt mean much i mean the shear volume of crap we churn through we see us at the top of the tree anyway...

yes all of us have been on our bikes...its been a cracker weekend in melb so ive just made the most of it...didnt quite get 5hrs in today like hitchy but did get 34 nasty hill repeats under the belt which left the old stumps perfectly numb :D

i feel like returning to bikeforums full time as i think justice has been served and because i think expat has worked his butt off to fix the whole mess up on our behalf and we shouldnt ignore that fact..

That's a repeat of sorts. A few weeks ago, the cops came and told this lady to keep her noise down, or something like that. She thought he wasn't a bad sort, and called 911 (000 to youse) and asked them if they could send that "Cute cop" back. They did. He gave her a summons. Stoopid chook.

im not sure we even own any of queensland anymore..:o ..

still it is a nice place to visit without doubt...if i had to rank australia by state heres my order:

1.VIC (Money, Power + Influence, Fashion, Culture + Style, SPORT)
2.NSW (a bit of the above + beaches)
3. WA (women completely stunning, some of the best beaches, surf and weather)
4.QLD (warm weather, beaches, women)
5. NZ (awesome skiiing, best holiday destination, everythings cheap as chups!!)
6. NT (offroad adventures, awesome fishing, croc hunting etc)
7. SA (good wines...errr...ummm...good wines...)
8. TAS (...a truely barren wasteland...lol nah its cool just a little quiet and chilly!!!)

NZ is quasi-state :D :p

Given the Aussie tendancy of laziness & shortcuts, if a thread doesn't appear on page 1 then not likely many will search for it.

Unless, of course, they are trying to do anything but the work that they should be doing,...:D :o

Unless of course, you have it in your subscribe list, then you just look in your user control panel and there it is. :)

But you are correct, scrolling past the first page and trying to sift through all the drebbige is far too time consuming.

Maybe a case or two of Magical Oz Brew will bribe a Mod to re-sticky it...or maybe The Australian Forum? That might take more than a case, though....might be worth it to miss the 'what bar tape makes you go faster' thread.

Brian
08-10-06, 08:19 PM
Well, if more people posted, then it might be worth being stickied. Of course, if the posts were there, then there wouldn't be the need to sticky it.
