not knowing much of sweet FA about weight, but how important is core strength to a bench press? i would imagine verry, and the only real combining factor between all the guys mentioned would be thier core strength...

Sorry, I hit the wrong button...

To continue. I thnen have a look to see if I can drill and tap...can't do this cause it would compromise the strength of the derrailleur bracket. So now I've got a 5mm hex head through the hole, which is being tightened by a SS nut on the other side. Is working ok but looks CRAP. Looks like I'm up for a new front derraileur.

Anyone here have a 9 speed, triple Shimano Ultegra/Dura Ace braze on for sale?

It's more relevant to sqautting and DLs. Bench is a fully supported lift....all tris, shoulders and pecs.

Powerlifters use a lot of back arch and extreme techniques, but these are guys moving 500lbs+

for 99% of lifters, yes.

Pinch shoulder-blades together on the bench for a stable platform. Bar should come down to ~nipple line.

ok tell me all about it...

Geez, I have a little sleep in and I have to wade through 2 pages of drivel! *gack*

Existence, yes, the Tephra CTi is an amalgam of Carbon and Ti. Is it worth the upcharge over the Ti? I think it will give the best ride eva or I wouldn't introduce it to the top of the range. If I didn't think it was an improvement over straight Ti, I wouldn't make it.

Of course, nobody 'needs' anything more than a double butted cromoly bike with 105, but it sure is nice :D

---

How excellent was the tour last night! I stayed up and watched the whole thing and it was totally riveting.

Menchov, Landis and Leipheimer looked very strong but it's early days yet. Everyone was still feeling the water but the war of attrition made for great TV.

The tour has finally begun! YESSSSS! :D

I may only need chromo and 105, but I upgraded from something like that three years ago and can't say I'd want to go back :) It's plastic and ultegra now baby !

They're very confused. They can only 'root' for one person at a time, so now Landis is the good cop (extra bonus for having something wrong with him, I mean appart from being a Seppo and a Menninite) and Leipheimer is a bad cop.

No idea why. Maybe because his surname is a little bit too German and Gerolsteiner is harder to pronounce than 'Phonak'?

Vette, you know the next step is Record and Titanium, right? ;) It happens to the best of us, trust me.

62vette
07-13-06, 07:56 PM
Titanium seems to be the long term platform of choice for a lot of riders. I have a mate with titanium roadie and MTB (Litespeed - used to own a bike shop) and he just upgrades the components every few years. I'll need some new money making venture to make that upgrade myself. My problem is I am always looking for a bargain and that'd be hard to find at the custom end of the market.

Floyd must feel really buggered after each stage with so many seppos rooting (for) him :p

Can some one tell me how Leipheimer can be a bum yesterday on a relatively easy day and make like he's towing the QEII up some of those hills where today on the much harder day he's full of beans and racing for the win?

They do seem to be on the Flandis wagon a lot more than on Leipheimer. I was wondering of it is because Levi has been riding for Euro teams for a longer time & was not a Postie/Disco boy a couple of seasons ago?

I say a coment by Dave Zabreski about Flandis the other day which I liked tho... "not too many other guys in the peleton were willing to tell Lance to grow screw himself".
Excepting Robbie McEwan of course a few years back..:)

I have a modicum more respect for guys like Landis and (not really) Hamilton for at least having the balls to know their talent and give themselves the best opportunity to excel.

Guys like Hincapie have been Lances butt-boy for so long, in his absence they really don't know what to do with themselves. It's like they need someone to aspire to rather than step up and be that person themselves.

How else can you explain how lame-duck Discovery appears to be at the moment. It's not like they're lacking in talent.

ps: Landis is a ginger :D Go Floyd!

nooo, they are on the seppo that hs most chance of a win band wagon! throw in some phyisical lance type ailment and your all set for a strong yank favourite. 1st it was George, then when it wa shoen he didnt have the power to pull the skin off a rice pudding it was onto the lesser knowns....

I cant stand Landis, never have been able to. maybee its the phonak thing cause i could never really find myself liking tyler hamilton either.

I think Caldel managed to upset lance by going or the stage win last year ahead of lance, like how dare he!

I liked this from todays main report on cyclingnews.

Moments after overnight leader Cyril Dessel crossed the line with a desperate lunge, 4'45 behind the first trio, the 30 year-old Phonak leader from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, swung his head around to the leaderboard, and a pat on the back from team doctor Denise Demir said it all.

It's easy to get cynical watching this stuff. ;)

Mennonite's will use modern technology, but will only drive black cars with blacked out chrome. Chrome is too prideful apparently.

If Floyd was actively mennonite, he would have to ride a black bike with no shiny bling, black shorts, black helmet etc. Sponsors would hate him :p

I've done that. My derailleur was a bit old, so I just put in a cleat bolt and used a matching nut -- in other words, I gave up on the thread on the derailleur. You might also be able to use a flat-headed bottle cage bolt

A silver cleat bolt and nut looks good enough. Bicycle Recycle might have one: 9555 8692. Usually $75 for 2nd hand Dura-Ace, and maybe around $50 for Ultegra Thanks Aussie, I spoke with the Father in Law who is an engineer and he thinks a stainless hexhead/star screw with a stainless nut will be fine and will look OK. He just happens to have a few 5mm of both in his work shop and is bringing them over tonight. I think I might also drive past your mate in South Road and just see what they've got, just for the hell of it.

Levi Leipheimer (Gerolsteiner, 2nd)

"Yesterday, I was a little bit low on fuel. So I made sure I ate a lot today, and I felt great."

see now this is seriously bull**** and a completely un-natural comment. to be fair he might have been very very tired and just dribbling rubbish to the media but its a very very strange thing for a professional athlete to say to justify starkly different performance levels from day to day....

an amateur athlete will certainly have significant fluctuations in performance due to nutritional uptake variations etc etc but in any sport professional athletes have their nutrition 'dialed in' a long time before an event. there is generally no stone unturned and the post day recovery is as organised (if not more so) than the actual event. he will know exactly how many Kjs he needs and when to get them and its one of the first things i would assume the team will co-ordinate in a military type fashion. its not like he would get a choice on any given day - oh i think this morning i will have crumpets for breakfast.

you read cadels comments and klodens...they speak naturally of their performance...i want to beleive in all of these guys and am happy to do so but when these sorts of comments are put forth i just know its natural.

boonen...

"I've been riding on my bike for seven hours, I've climbed five cols; tomorrow, there's a stage of 212 kilometres, and after that, a stage of 230 kilometres... I think that's just great," he said sarcastically.

"This is scandalous, it's over the top. They are just shouting that they want to fight against doping, but then they give us a program like this," said Boonen, referring to either the UCI or Tour organisers ASO, or perhaps both.

"I'm also supporting the battle against doping, but with these sorts of stages, the battle will never be won," Boonen said, riding off back to the hotel in an effort to recover from today's stage.

i think common curtosy and respect for others in the road would be enough to get me by in the ATB...more using the rides on beach rd to get a feel for the terrain in that context...learning some bunch skills might be the go if i get ambitious and start to compete somewhere? like nz where i could win everything as ive heard they pedal backwards...:p

You are right, courtesy & respect would probably be enuff for the ATB, but in all seriousness some bunch skills would be highly useful in ATB because if you have them it might help you avoid problems caused by others around you who don't.
