Wow what a suprise at the Aus titles RR!!!

I knew menzies was going to feature...seems like his career has been going sideways and he needed a big result.

Im suprised mclachlan beat home menzies and hilton clarke in a sprint finish.

I noticed lloyd finished 6th...i bet he was the one that repeatedly put the hurt into the pack...i mean only 19 finished??

eagerly awaiting your report classic....

(cycling news dont have a report up yet)

edit: Gerrans, Davis, Jongewaard DNF....and the time wasnt that flash....there has to be an interesting story to this race....

Get used to it.
If there's gonna be any coverage, it'll be SBS or ABC.
Commercial TV sucks dog's thingies ... I rarely watch it.

Jongewaard and Gerrans were in a very early break with Oneill. They got caught at halfway and Gerrans didnt have the steam to hang in when the break went away again. The young guy who won, Lapthorne , was away for the last 20 odd kays. Top ride - I know the name but don't know much about him. Drapc Porsche had three in the break, Healthnet had three most of the time and Wilson and Cooke for Unibet were there until the second last climb. Clarke had his little brother working for him. Menzies and Clarke rode fantastic races and kept their powder dry until the finale. McLoughlin was probably the strongest. Attacked, got caught, covered the moves for his teammate, won the sprint by over a length. Lloyd apparently trained his arse off for the event but couldnt put the hurt on at the end. He is farkin tiny and was on gears one or two cogs lower than anyone else on the climb.

Davis couldnt go with the 14-15 riders who made the break when it went at halfway.

There weren't that many people on the climb today as they had full road closure and stopped people driving up there at 10.30. We only just beat the full road closure and got stopped three times by cops or marshalls getting to our spot. Managed to see the final climb and just made it to the finish to see the sprint. Great day out eating BBQ and sucking beers up there on the hill with the old man and his mates.

I dont really have any goss on Bucks other than having met his wife on a number of occasions. Shes all class. He is a freak in that he can deliver on either foot over 50m. It can hurt teams. Not many guys can do that even today.

What gets me is he can do that off two or three steps. Its impressive to watch.

Is it common in nationals and one day classics etc for riders to pull out when they know they cant get into a big front pack? Its a strange one for me in the sense that I have never really come across it before...in terms of calling it quits when you know you cant win. I can understand why they do it but was just wondering if its common place?

classic1

Its common when theres nothing to race for (eg, prize money, UCI or Protour points etc)

She's the Loss Prevention Investigator at a local store. Last weekend, she stopped a shoplifter, and he ended up hitting her in the head, bruising up her arm, and breaking her finger. But she also had his jacket and mobile phone, so he was arrested within an hour. Apparently the fine he would have faced for the theft is $174.95. Instead, he's probably looking at 6-12 months in jail. That's if they go easy on him.

I'll probably never do it, but where's the place to park up in the hills?Skyhigh was always a favourite for parking... oh, sorry, wrong sort of parking :D

Depends on what you want to do. Sassafras is pretty central, but if I drive, (only when I'm running late for a training ride) I park at The Basin... use the 1/20 to warm your legs up and you're ready to go by the time you get to Sassafras .
Lots of people park in Belgrave too. You gonna do that loop?

Did 80km of hills yesterday. Couldn't believe how many people were up here - 1/20 was like Bourke St... some didn't even make it to the top! ...passed some bloke in full Fassa kit zig-zagging up the wall - never seen that before... poor bugger wasn't even 1/2 way... doubt if he made it.

Probably Allessandro Petacchi. Those Italian sprinters hate climbing.

Yep, plenty of people park at the Basin carpark & start on the 1/20. Done that meslef when I wanted to do some hill repeats & no have to ride home.

I was one of the punters going up the 1/20 yesterday. :) Passed a couple of your clubbies going the other way just before I got there (just before 8am). Went up and over down thru Kalorama then turned right at Montrose & went out to some steep street that starts with "E" (I think) & ended up in Mooroolbark. 70kms for me.

One of them was me. Only 2 of us yesterday cos the others were all at Donna.
We met up about 1/2 way up the 1/20 and rode down to The Basin to see if any of the others were coming... waited 10 minutes and went up again... went through Kallista to Emerald and came back through Monbulk/Olinda. Did you have your BBN gear on?

Nah, stealth kit yesterday. The EVCC boys I saw were at the 2nd roundabout away from the base of the 1/20 (IIRC correctly). I didn't think it was you or I would have called out. I almost got my sub 20min time too..:D

TV was there. Farked if I know which station, probably SBS. Liggett was there. Bastard ate the last of the good hamburgers off me barbie.

You get used to the lack of interest from the media after a while. Getting good coverage is atypical, not typical. The media don't really seem to understand how big the sport is in Europe. You're lucky its not 1986. If you were lucky you found the result in the paper. If not it was someone you knew in Europe phoning results through or a three month wait for the cycling magazines.
