Australia - New Zealand - The Aussie thread. . . part cinq.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i was talking to a Pommy dude the other day who was riding one of these, and he said he bought it
off Zabel's mechanic -- but it didn't have Boras :)

Just scooted down to Bike Now in my lunchbreak......it's about 40 degrees outside, BTW.
Last year's T-Mobile Giants have had the guts cut out of them. I reckon if you sounded a bit keen, they'd get another haircut.
Did they have the new Cannondale system6 with the big fugly headtube?

Hey Ed, got a little tear in one of my quads (rectus I think). With good management it'll be fine in a couple of days time, but what's the chance of reinjuring the site doing standing starts on Sunday week? Any way to avoid reinjuring it apart from not competing?

Tears aren't much fun. I recommend 2 weeks off completely......but if you can't help yourself, take it easy.
all the leg muscles get excellent blood flow, so it should heal well if left alone.
Just as I suspected. Guess I'll hafta blow Beauie away to preserve myself for the States. Dammit I can climb little hills without any problems, but I have zero confidence with standing starts. Thanks bloke.

Unpasteurised cheese and fresh foie gras - unfortunately they won't make it past Customs :(

Why not? Couldn't you carve the cheese into the shape of some nice breasts and get some poor flat-chested lass to act as your cheese mule? Your on your own with the liver though.

Wot, even worserer than Koffee on a bad hair day?!??? No way. You'd need to drink beer, or take bad acid or summint to be the worst ever. :D
Hows life mate in downtown mormon central? They believe in polygamy right? Sounds like your kinda gig :p

I wasn't going to mention her by name, but really, you'd have to be new to call me the worst, hey? And I did have a beer the other night, so that's like 8 for the year.
No complaints living here, other than the people. We've got a friend visiting from Newcastle, and she's a bit shocked. Yeah, they're stupid, and poor drivers, the lot. We had the polygamy discussion the other night. Who in their right mind would want more than one wife? I say get a mistress if that's your thing, but more than one wife is more than I can afford.

I think we must have broken their database with our inane drivel. So let's get started in on this one :D
It's fkn weeing down here in sheep shagger central today. I turned the alarm off and had a sleep in for the first time on a Satdee in ages.
A first for me yesterday was having to set a mouse trap in my wardrobe after the cat did a catch and release in the bedroom at 5am and the wee mouse sought sanctuary amongst my shoes and gym bags. The little bugger went to meet his maker after the peanut butter bait was too much of a temptation at lunch time :p

I'm sore.
Why the hell did I put the new fortezza on the rear and leave that bastard gp4000 on the front? Actually I know the answer to that, the rear was the most worn and I was too lazy to rotate em.
Derailleur side down of course :(
Time for some new bar tape. And skin.

Ow!
Derailleurs, bar tape and pedals always seem to look like you've had a major bone breaking stack even if you've just tipped the bike over in the garage putting the recycling out :(

any one know what time the velodrome tryout thing at the hunter velodrome is on ?
Did you find out? I dunno what day its on but you could check out the Hunter District CC website, see if they have more info.
You can pretty much try the velodrome out anytime you want because the pedestrian gate is never locked. I rode there every day after school for three years, just walked straight in. Just be careful not to clip your pedals on the wall if you're riding anything >165mm. It's super grippy and really bumpy. Not lightning fast though. They stuffed the banking roll off, so remember to stay below the blue line as you hit the straights at speed especially if you don't like being airborne.

it's back again
it's back again
Oh no it's not!
Well I'm orf then. See you all in November, same bat-channel, same bat-time, same bat-station (or maybe the other one)
Have fun until then

Have you considered buying it over the internet from elsewhere?

No idea about Brisbane, but try Phantom Cycles in Tahmoor, NSW (phone 02 4683 1262) - they are pretty reliable for mail order. We've used them heaps of times and I bought my husband's Christmas present from them (which coincidentally, was Brooks leather handlebar tape)
Their website is http://www.phantomcycles.com.au

Anyone heard from Jock or Kotter lately? I hear Newcastle's had a bit of bad weather.
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2007/06/09/boyd10607_wideweb__470x312,0.jpg
Uncle Jock has temporarily abandoned us while he trains for some event which will be held in November .... the nationals, or something?
Kott3r made a brief re-appearance but I think he's too busy doing the student thing to hang out with us old farts. :p
Newcastle didn't fare as badly with the weather as some other parts - 6000 homes in Maitland were evacuated on Sunday and parts of Singleton were on standby for evacuation. The Central Coast copped it pretty hard Friday and Saturday - we've been without power since Friday and were flooded in on Saturday. Haven't heard from Climbo or Pshaw so we don't know how they fared, but there were still 15,000-odd homes without power as of 8am this morning. Lots of trees down, so here's hoping neither of them copped a tree on the house, or anything hairy like that.

Hello all ~ I'm going to be in Auckland in about another week; can anyone recommend any sights around those parts. Thanks VM in advance...
Parnell for food in Auckland. The Coromandel if you're traveling with a woman, Rotorua if you're not allergic to sulphur.
