Heres my question that new Kona I got (well, okay its a '02) I'm wondering if should sell it or upgrade it. I have a Norco Java right now with a couple years old Marzocchi which still works flawlessly, and the groupo is pretty much all xt/lx. The Kona has Judy tt in front and the groupo is...well, mismatch the derailuers are acero/deore and there is a couple of shimano things here and there. They both are hardtails, the Kona is heavier than Norco. Whats your opinion?

What model is the Kona? Does it fit you?

Kona blast 2002. Already been upgraded quite a bit if the parts really are LX xt as it comes stock with just below generic. I would dump the fork but that because I like marzocchi and I ride harder than most rock shox can handle. Which bike fits better and which do you prefer style wise. The kona is a stronger bike for burlier runs but it is still just a xc bike. :)

If you do upgrade the fork look at the MX series.

the 2002 kona blast actually has acero/deore. I think I'm going to sell it and just use the money to upgrade my Norco Java. Here's my second question how much do guys think I can get for that bike, pretty much everything is the same as the kona site except for probably a few lower grade components (not sure how that happened).

I was wondering. If the bike had lx/xt it would have been a massive upgrade. Personally I would keep the Blast because it is newer. But then again I prefer Kona over Norco and the frame is several years newer :)

but then again I don't have to worry the paint because it doesn't have any. And all that I have to upgrade is the bars and grips, it already has xt/lx which works awesome.

If this is the case, I'd just keep both. Upgrade the norco to XTR :D , and switch the components to the Kona. I am guessing, since you have had the norco for a while that you like it, so I would keep the bike that you are the most framilier with, and give it prioity in upgrades.

Norco: xt/lx
Kona:acero/deore

Which one doesn't have any paint? And Why?

The Norco doesn't have any paint, its either polished aluminum or nickel plated not sure but either it wasn't meant to have any paint on it.

O.k., just remembered you thinking at one time the Kona was Ti, if it was unpainted, then I'd assume it definately was Ti., and it would be the "better" bike.

Didja ever find out what Model the Kona is?

The Kona Blast is aluminum, has cheesy components and its heavier. Its only been ridden three times once from the original owner on a trail I assume, and twice from me around town nothing too urban just some stairs (not too fast) thats all. Thats when I realized that I wanted to sell it. My Norco is a light bike and the brakes are almost overkill for some of the things that I want to do.

Ok, I don't mean to sound like a stuck up jerk, but.......

There are some things you have to decide for yourself, this is one of them. We don't control your mind. We can't make your decision, you have to make it yourself.

Advice, Swap parts with the Norco, then sell the Norco. Hey it's your decision though.

I wasn't asking which bike I should keep I was asking how much do you think I could get for my Kona as is (I've gone through the description of both bikes a couple times in THIS forum.)

I realize that the forum name is misleading but half way through this forum I realized that I wanted to sell the bike so instead of starting a new post I just asked a second question on the same one, sorry for the misleading but yes I know which bike I'm keeping and which one I'm selling, the question now is how much?

Can I get $500 for it? And does anyone know why it has Henry Wienhards and its logo on their?

Phatman

no, try $300 or $400. New it is $525. Bike shops are probably charging that already since its an 02. I'm sorry, but it is a MTB, and a buyer has no idea about hard it has been used. I would say 400 at most from a private buyer, 300 from a shop. Just my thoughts.

Why dont you just keep the bike? It seems ok to me. Use it as a beater, or a winter bike. convert it to SS. put drop handlebars on it and make it an adventure racer. dont sell it though, it seems like a fine bike.

SS on a mtn bike= Simplicity. It's gathering quite a following, some races now even have a SS class. Put it in the clasifieds on all the forums and if it doesn't sell you can make a simple single speed to play on...
