Are Mixte style frames produced any more?
I see girl hybrid bikes but not road bikes.

I Salvaged a Shogun lugged steel Mixte and have the frame stowed away. It seems to me that this style bike would be a practical canidate for upgrading since you really cannot buy a comparable low end road bike for the money

I don't think there are, at least by major makers. Just no demand for them.

I would like to see a nice old mixte upgraded w/modern parts.

Not strictly a mixte; a mixte has twin tubes going from the head tube to the rear drop-out, but this is a rare custom ‘dave moulton’ ladies drop tube frame. There were only three of these built in California.

Yes, I think that the Rivendell Mixte is the only one left on the market.

I own a mint Bridgestone "Carmel" city mixte that I scored on E-bay for a
song. This bike is very strong and smooth with just the right gearing for
city riding. The part that impresses me most about my bike is the quality
of the frame. It's just beautiful!! :D :D

Not sure why Rivendell calls that a mixte. A mixte frame should have two lateral stays running from the headtube to the dropouts.

Vintage mixte's are a great bargain, I think, although I think that there probably weren't many, if any, high-end mixte frames produced.

Sheldon Brown says it's still a mixte if it has a single top tube, but it has to have three stays in the rear. I prefer the look of the twin tubes.

There were some built, but not many. I understand that there were some Peugeot PX-10 mixtes.

I'm working on a single speed '75 Raleigh Super Course mixte for my wife right now. So far, it's got Campy hubs, aero spokes, Ambrosio rims and 28mm tubulars. The brakes are MAFAC Competitions and the crank is a TA Professional 3 pin. I just picked up a Simplex seat post for it, along with a Stronglight A9 headset. The saddle is a Brooks Flyer. I think it's going to be a nice bike. I was pretty excited about it until she told me she hates the color.

I have a 1988 Motobecane Boulevardier mixte that I got in Germany (It was the only bicycle I could even get on; Germans love Dutch bikes with huge frames and wheels.) Anyway, I loved the bike but it had significant problems with its frame. The rack attached to the hub in a very weak fashion so the bicycle was unstable when loaded with panniers.
I'm about to donate this bike to a charity. Actually, I've never seen another one of these particular models. Was it just bad, or did it never sell?

Yesterday, July 14 was my wifes birthday and this is what I gave her. I added the bow and tassels for the occasion. A like new Metallic PINK Univega Safari Ten Mixte I picked up for $20 at a thrift. Couldn't believe the condition it was in and everything looks to be original parts. It just has a few minor scratches to the paint that shouldn't be a problem to touch up with some matching nail polish. Tires still have the little nubbies sticking out of the middle of the tread and the handlebar foam is clean and new. Everything looks to be original on it to. It just needed air in the tires and a few adjustments. My wife made the mistake a few weeks ago of jokingly saying she wanted a Pink bike and I already had this tucked away in my storage unit. It might just be a bit too big though so it might have to go up on CL or the auction block.

amazing raleigh! And speaking of pink Mixte frame... I constantly see a metallic pink Miyata and Nishiki Mixtes around here that are positively stunning and good quality cromoly machines.

I'm really happy with the way my wife's Raleigh Super Course II came out. She is too.

It weighs 1.4 pounds less than both my PX10 and my Gitane TdF.

That's some of the sloppiest metal work I've ever seen on a bike frame. They're not all like that.
