Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

From my limited (1 fall/1winter/2 summers) experience in Calgary, there are a LOT of recreational cyclists in Calgary, but few car free/car light ones.

I am getting this from the fact that the recreational bike paths (which are excellent for the most part, beautiful, and extensive) are well used, at rush hour and off rush hour, but the roads (my experience is mostly in the NW) have very few bikes, except maybe in the downtown core.

Further, many of the cycle commuters DRIVE to get to the bike path, and then ride the rest of the way to the downtown (I've seen many unloading their bikes at parking lots along the path), or disappear when the weather gets cold. I've ridden down to -25C in this city, and while I wouldn't reccomend it anything above -10C is quite pleasant.

So are there a lot of car-free/car light people in Cgy? Am I jumping to conclusions? Tell your story, offer your gripes, advice, etc.

Cheers!
