View Full Version : NYC Parks Roadway Ticketing
Just a heads up, Bloomies brute squad was seen in CP this weekend handing out fliers saying if you're caught going over 15 mph on your bike, you will be ticketed despite the only posted speed limit being 30mph.

TT riding in Central Park on MUP's and pedestrian areas would probably be contraindicated anyway!http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/mad/boese048.gif

Not a MUP - all the paths are closed to bikes anyway. This is a three-lane road, one lane of which is segregated for pedestrians.
Too bad I don't live in NYC anymore. I would just get a ticket to contest it.

Honest question here: is this a public road? do cars use it? are bikes considered vehicles in NY? If the answer is yes to all of these, the law has an "issue" I would think (to my understanding, there can be no dual speedlimits, at least not in Ontario). Good luck to those living there.

yeah this is very true I'm a doorman on the upper west side and alot of the people in my building have told me that police are giving out tickets to cyclists for just about any reason. I guess its because the NYPD is under investigation for the past 2 deaths of cyclists here in NYC.
How can they enforce a precise speed limit for a class of vehicles not required to have speedometers?

So I guess this is the "blame the victim" style of community policing? Do they write tickets to people on foot for loitering if they're trying to address a problem with muggers? I've never though it fair to compare NYC with any other place in the US, but that's ridiculous. For what it's worth, you all have my sympathies. Do any New Yorkers feel that it would be at all helpful to have other people contact your mayor's office or any tourist boards to tell them we won't plan vacations there because of the way cyclists are treated?

oh yeah there's been alot of protest and rallies going on around the city and at city hall about this matter. Cycling has been becoming a big sport here in NYC but the city has still not done all they can do to make cycling better

Also in CP, speed limit for cars is 25mph and for bikes 15 mph. Figure that out.
