Mountain Biking - I have a dream! (bike)

I`m always thinking about my extrasuperdoppa dreambike (changes about every year), these bikes costs a fortune and maybe,maybe one day i can pay the money to ride one!
This is my "bike" at the moment, i think she`s so :cool:

The cannondale scalpel is pretty wild with the lefty and all that. I would love to have a piece of that one.

The ultimate dream bike has to be a custom built one. Why do MTBers pay $ks for a factory bike, when they could get a master craftsman to build them a one-off for less?

One of my two bikes is customized, by myself of course.
It was very expensive, but i love to keep working late at night on the"project" and see her grow!
But i`m no bikemechanic, so i left the difficult things for my LBS :D

You guys ever see the GT-STS-1000 ? I think it's a 2000 model. But, Man oh man it's the best design I've ever seen. Check it out.

Dream bikes, eh? I would have to go for the Ellsworth Witness (http://www.ellsworthbicycles.com/Witness.html) . I have never been on an offroad tandem, but i think it would be an awesome date :)

As for my personal dream bike, again, i would go with Ellsworth (just something about thoes custom bikes...), this time with the Ellsworth Dare (http://www.ellsworthbicycles.com/dare.html) , I spent a few hours on this bike at the local ski resort. This bike with 7" of travel front and rear climbs better then my GF Joshua, even tho my GF is 15lbs lighter, and has half the travel.

Mark, that stab is awesome! Treknm have you spent time on that sts-1000? I have never been on a GT i really liked, other then the old '98 & '99 Zaskars, one of the best hard tail bikes i have ever sat on.

WOW that Ellsworth is cool. It looks hardcore. I've only riden on GT, that was my GT Performer BMX bike when I was into freestlyen. Hey you forget, I'm a new MTB rider. I've only just begun to explore this wonderful world.

Hey mr. man.. LOL.. I only said that I liked the design. Believe me I know about looks not being everything, I studied and hit every bike shop for 50 miles of here for at least 2 months before choosing mine.

As for my dream XC rig, it would have to be the Moots YBB, or maybe even the Smoothie, I went on vacation to Steamboat Springs CO last year, where moots is located, spent three days on a rental YBB, and toured there shop ohhh *droooool* i'll find pics later :)

Welp, im going to go hit the LBS, have some bikes to test ride, road, not mountain this time.... :D

Wow Joe, i didn`t know the brand Ellsworth, but did you actually ride the "Dare" Pfff, the workmanship is really phenomenal!

Yeah, i got to make about 10 passes at the local ski resort "downhill" run. Its truely an amazing bike, but plan on paying $4500 - $5500 for a fully built downhill rig. Ellsworth also makes an amazing XC bike, called the truth, but even there largest frame felt too small for me.

If your ever in Moab, check out dreambike, utah's only Ellsworth dealer, they have a fleat of Truth and Dares for rental, They also sell an Xdreamride Edition (http://www.dreambike.com/images/rocky1.jpg) (specs (http://www.dreambike.com/darebikes.htm)) bike that goes for $6K! :eek:

As for the i-drive "rave"? I guess it has some advantages, i dont know if you really can ride a gear or two higher then a normal FS bike as GT claims, but i did notice it was easyer to keep a constint caddence with the i-drive then without, maybe it was advertsing hype, and i was expecting it? i dunno, try it for yourself :D

I've got to chime in here. My dream bike? Oooh there are sooooooo many. My first would probably be a Turner XCE built up with a Marzocchi Z-1.

My second choice would probably be an Intense Uzzi SL, same fork.

I work at a shop that sells Cannondales, and we're expecting one of the new Scapels soon. That appears to be a sweet bike, but really not suited to my style of riding. I prefer more travel. I figure if I'm going to ride a FS bike I want it to have at least 4" of travel front and rear.

I live in FL about 45 minutes south of Profile Racing and I know some of the guys that work there. They've got a sweet hardtail that I'm considering getting. I'd set it up for "hardcore" with a set of Profile's chromoly cranks and of course you guessed it a Z-1 fork, o.k. I may consider one of Manitou's new Supernova's.

Road bike? probably something Italian or I'd really like to get something in Titanium. A Litespeed would be nice or one of the new LeMonds.

Cross? I'd love to get my hands on a Kona Jake the Snake.

General Riding around? I've already got it. I've built up a Specialized P.3 as a single-speed. Ouch my knees hurt!

Dude! Tell me everything you know about the Cannondale Bad Boy Jekyll! Im looking to pick this bike up as my all-around commuting / part time roadie (hah!) bike, and part time single track bike.... Good choice? Is it fast on the streets? The local cannondale shop doesnt carry the bad boy line, arg... it looks sweet! I spent time on a bad boy ultra, but i need a FS rig with full lockout... The bad boy is awesome, I'm not at the shop, but I'll get you MSRP tomarrow or Saturday at the latest. Here's a thought though, Buy a Jekyll (or Scapel when they come out) and get the model with disc brakes (Jekyll 900 - don't know which for the Scapel yet), then buy a set of wheels from the bad boy (or hubs and build an extra set of wheels with 700 rims). That way, you've got a beefier frame, better components and a bike that no one else has. Yes, you do have to swap out the cassette when switching wheels, but that's the only hassle. Also, buy a quick link for your chain to make cleaning the drivetrain less of a chore.

I'm currently riding a F2000SX. It's a hardtail with the Lefty. It's the one that is blue to white fade with the red stars and stripes. I built up a set of wheels for the road, and I call it my "patriot boy". It's essentially the same thing and I believe it's cheaper than buying a bad boy!! Most shops still have left over mountain bikes, but usually have to special order a bad boy, i.e. better deal on the bike in the shop!!!

I saw a guy riding a Karpiel at Downieville. That thing is basically a motorcycle with no engine. It makes other downhill bikes look wimpy. That thing had to be hard to corner though, the bottom bracket was extremely high.

The mountain bike that was posted on this thread, really looks awesome, wish I can ride one, although I have a Trek Mountain bike R800, it also do the job when I ride with my son...

Are those downhill bikes suitable for everyday trail riding? Lets say I had the money to blow.

It depends on what kind of trails you ride. If you ride stunts, then I would say yeah, a DH rig would be in your future. If not, you just ride regular XC trails, then it would be overkill. Remember, climbing on a 40+ pound bike is not much fun. Now, if you lived near a ski resort that had it's lifts open in the summer then you may want to consider a DH bike for fun. Take the lift to the top and then blast downhill.

Also, you can get a long travel Freeride style bike. It still has pretty good amount of travel but you can still climb with it, although not as easy as a regular XC bike.

what is the average cost of a DH? Something middle of the road?

I just bought the starting point for my dream bike. A Kona Stinky. A few part changes in the next few months and I will have my "dream bike".

Thats so it doesn't hit me in the butt when I hop over something or so I dont hit it landing a 6 foot drop. I have a hardtail for cross country.

I like it ok. I dont ride in the mud much. I can switch it to my other bikes so I use it mostly on the hardtail for commuting.

I like the bike Spic - Mick , Kona always builds "dare to be different " bikes and go their on way! Kona`s :cool:

ah just kidding. I love that bike, if i had money i'd start saving for it now. But as for a fork i'd get a float 125RLC, brakes i'd get those new Marta Disks, Cane Creek Rear shock, XTR everything, thompson stem seatpost combo, King headset and hubs, mavic CrossMax UST wheels, and a selle saddle. Pretty much you're racerboy components

Nice work...thats a great bike. I wouldn't go soooo hardcore. I like the Dawg...does everything well. :)

Now if I lived on the shore. Banshee all the way baby. That thing is a beast with two wheels. :)
