I only saw it here and there during the OLN broadcast, but my first impression was:
"Flip it!"

When Landis wins the tour, I'm flipping my stem.

He certainly looked suprised when he got it. Cool idea I think.
It definitely was a fly bike. And the look on his face- surprise and joy- it was utterly priceless. I hope someone got a picture of that one! :)

That was, indeed, a sweet bike. I like Team Phonak's bikes as it is but that one is a stunner.

Between Landis calling the other riders "pretenders" and then riding a yellow bike mid-tour rather than just in Paris, I think he might have angered the cycling Gods. :P

There's no guarantee he'll have yellow in Paris, let the fellow enjoy his time as leader

That's exactly what I thought. It's a little early and pretentious. Maybe after being solidly in yellow after the Alps, if it happens.
But, on the other hand, I've really enjoyed Landis' faith in himself; so for him to feel he's going to get that bike back in a few days is encouraging.
Yeah, I think the yellow/green/polka-dot stuff HAS gone a little overboard...
I think it all started with Laurent Jalabert's polka-dot Look that he got on his last trip to Paris. Hell, even Tom Boonen was wearing a special helmet and crap like that when he was wearing yellow... Robbie McEwen also has a green bike waiting, but I haven't seen him actually ride it yet. He said one morning that he was happy with how his current bike was riding.
Whatever. If each team wants to spend the cash to have a yellow bike and yellow kit handy just in case, let 'em. And while Flandis's yellow bike is an insanely cool rendition of what is already my dream bike, it seems a little excessive.

Yeah it all ties in with Phonak's plan to overthrow the French government by disrepecting the yellow jersey and anything associated with the Tour in general.
Gimme a break. Not one of us would even think twice about taking and riding that bike if we were in Floyd's shoes. Well, not too many of us would even make it that far I guess.
I say, good for him, ride on. Who cares what color bike or helmet he's wearing.

Robbie has been riding a black/green Noah since he took over the green jersey...

Go Robbie! You ride that bike!

Ditto. Why does every fool think you have to do it exactly like Lance did it? Keep the freakin' jersey, give it away... who cares? As long as you roll into Paris wearing it, why are people losing their friggin minds over who wears it, who gives it away, what color bike, etc.? Get out there and ride- not one of us are even as good as the guy who finished last, much less the ones who dropped out. ;)

DrPete, you think this is "excessive"? You need to get out a bit more. The world's screaming, "Anything worth doing, is worth doing to excess."
Meanwhile, back to the "Tour". Pretty exciting stuff everyday, eh?

None of them has ever beat Chipollini with his yellow eveything kit. Funny, he didn't have yellow shoes.

Oh my god. Blatant disrespect for the Green Jersey to ride that mid-race. Just think of the Years Of Tradition being messed with here, folks...a slippery slope! The Tour is in real danger with one dis after another. They should just cancel the '07 Tour right now
Seriously, that's a cool-looking bike. Go Robbie!

Shouldn't Phonak have waited until the last day to unveil the bike? I mean, come on, they gave away the jersey the next day! Lance never put on the full yellow regalia (helmet, bike, wheels) until the ride into the Champs Elysee. Probably lots of grumbling, but that's a reason Phonak was criticized for not doing more to hold onto the jersey. If you're going to flaunt it, defend it!

You make a good point. Should any of us really be surprised?
Still, if I ever have the cash for a Pro Machine, I'd shell out a couple extra bucks for the yellow one too... Guess none of us are immune :)

Excessive? Excessive schmessive, I say. If I had earned it, I'd ride it too. Anyway, its good advertising for the tour, makes it a little more fun for the rest of us to watch. "Oooh, is so-and-so going to ride a special bike today? Oooohh!"

It's probable that the sponsor makes them ride the 'special' bikes so the rest of us can drool over them.

So now that Landis has given up the yellow jersey, does he keep riding the yellow bike?

Do you think it has a triple for the mountains??? :D

The flowing lines of the paint job on McKuen's bike makes it look like it's in motion although it's standing still. The white saddle and handlebar tape plus the light blue tires seem to lighten the weight of the bike.
That is one gorgeous bike. Its paint job puts the yellow BMC to shame.

I havn't checked, but i'd bet serious money he's got a Record CT (compact) crank on his bike for the hills.
Not to go off topic here but has anyone else noticed that on bike shots of the riders make them look like all out atheletes but off bike shots when they are in plain clothes (like a t shirt) they look mal-nutritioned and sickly?

For god's sake, if he gets to wear the yellow again would someone keep him from riding the yellow bike??? I'm not the most superstitious person in the world, but I'd almost suggest getting the yellow out of the phonak jersey for good measure for how that yellow routine seems to have been a total curse.
;)

+1,000,000,000. Yellow bike is cursed. Give it to me now. I'll lose the hell out of some races with it :D

screw floyd's bike. robbie's noah is pure sex. oh, man, that thing looks sleek.
If I were Floyd I would thank his team very much for the yellow bike, tell them that he treasures it so much that he doesn't want anything to happen to it, and ask them to lock it up in the deepest, darkest dungeon they can find for it, so it will be safe until after the race is completely over!
all that being said, floyd landis has 3 testicles.

I'm pretty sure it's 2... just big, brass ones.
Definitely wins the "Stephen Colbert Medal for Audacity..." :D

I'm of the eeeeww mind towards coloured bikes as you are still part of a team after all.
BUT as for Landis, he may NEVER race again after his hip replacement. I'll let him open his gift before the last stage, because what if he didn't wear yellow in Paris? In hindsight it may have been karmic - stage16. Could create a new superstition.
