View Full Version : Who will be in the break tomorrow? (Potential Spoiler)

Hopefully this will keep from running afoul of spoiling things for those who don't watch the tour live. I started another thread about who Discovery will send on the break tomorrow, and merlin mentioned that people reading the thread might get wind of what happened on the "current" stage, and feel like something had been spoiled. I apologize to the moderators (Koffee) :) if this isn't the "right" way to do this.

Here's how I envision this working. Try to get inside the heads of the DS's and the peleton, and guess who's going to be on the break in the next days' stage. Give your rationale for the guess, and discuss why you agree or disagree (civilly of course) with the speculation that others have made.

To start things off - I'll reiterate my prognostication about Team Discovery in stage 13. I think they'll send Martinez, but if not him, I'd guess Rubiera. I think the stage suits Egoi, and I think they're going to want to give Hincapie a little more rest before they try to send him.

Who else wants to play?

This is fine. I have issues with people butt-insky'ing into normal threads about the tour and posting spoilers.

Long day, rolling, hot. The break will be caught, Boonen wins the sprint. (just guessing, no logic to support)

I say Zabel takes it, he's out there busting himself everyday so he has to get a win sometime. Boonen seems unable to win without his full leadout train which was disrupted by the removal of two leadout men and the insertionof two climbers. If not Zabel, McEwen or Freire maybe. My darkhorse is Luca Paolini but that seems like a longshot

Moncoutié, either today or tomorrow.
All CSC will stay put.
Same for Phonak, T-Mobile, Rabobank.
If Hincapie feels he's too short for mountain stages, he'll go for it again today or tomorrow (nice category 2 to 4 hills! Just like the classics he loves. Enemy for him: HEAT)

Since this is directed at a specific stage-why a separate thread from the stage 13 thread?

Let's see the result:

"All CSC will stay put...." errrr except Jens Voigt (duh)

"Same for Phonak, T-Mobile, Rabobank" errrr right, but I actually didn't mean it like they would let Pereiro gain 30 minutes

"...If Hincapie feels he's too short for mountain stages, he'll go for it again today or tomorrow ..." errr no Disco in the breakaway.

Never trust my previsions ! :D Who was MORE wrong than myeslf. Come on, do your "Mea Culpa", hehe

Me. Me. I was at least as wrong. OK - stage 14 - I'll guess Hincapie and Flecha.

Yeah. Hincapie needs to ride someone's ass who's strong enough to pull him to another stage win. :D
