Mountain Biking - more questions

I am a heavy rider and plan to make my way up to about 7 foot drops on my giant iguana. I have upgraded the fork so it can handle the drops but i still want to upgrade the factory POS crank to rf prodigy isis. but I also want to upgrade the rims from my current alex ace-18 to a pair that are light weight and strong for the best price. any info will help

I personally prefer Mavic 321d's. Sun have never given me anything but problems. MAvic 519's or 521's are good as well. These should all easily handle those drops. :)

I agree with Maelstrom. I've never had any luck with Sun Rim's holding up. Although, a lot of people swear by their Rhyno Lite's. I prefer Mavic's hands down. I'm riding 321's right now, and have had some 521's. They've got a budget FR Rim, the F219 (I think!).

Ooops, those are not lightweight and require a 20mm thru axle. Cruise around Pricepoint. They have some XT hubs laced to Rhyno Lites cheap!

Tubeless, lightweight, heavy duty and inexpensive, Sorry dude, you're dreaming! Plus, you need to make up your mind. Lightweight = light duty; Heavy = Heavy Duty; Heavy Duty = Expensive; Lightweight = Expensive; Tubeless = Very Expensive

You can get a set of '03 Mavic D-Max wheels. They are also tubless. They will cost you 600 bucks a set though.

The crossroc are good rims but I would not want to do too many big drops on them.

I would buy a beefy standard wheelset and a kit from www.notubes.com. Crossrocs will not stand up to a lot of "abuse".

As a rule, you have to give up one of the following:
- light
- durable
- inexpensive

Sorry to hear some guys have had bad luck with them, but we've had nothing but good luck with them at our shop. (I have three wheels built up using their rims, 2 using the Ringle hubs) Their customer service is fantastic as well. Rhyno lites could be a good starting point, but they also offer some heavier-duty stuff.
