Hi everyone, we are totally new to biking and just have a basic $80 bike BUT I cannot figure out where I can put a water bottle on this particular bike or if it's even possible. I am attaching a picture and any advice would be greatly appreciated. The bike is a Magna Excitor.

It's possible but you'll probably have to be creative and use something like hose clamps (with rubber strips next to frame for tightness).

check beneath the down tube or below where "Magna" is at to see if there are two screws (those are for mounting the water bottle racks).

Another option is to get a two-bottle hanger that attaches to the back of the saddle; triathletes use these.

some people mount them under the downtube. Or you could just wear a camelback :) Or get one of those cool "beer helmets" that people use at ballgames.

My younger brother has a full suspension bike and we mounted a cage under the downtube using hose clamps. Only downside to this setup is he has to stop whenever he wants a drink and the bottle gets really dirty really fast, so instead he uses a small camelbak.

Unfortunately, this is a common problem with many of today's more exotic frame styles. Last year I bought a slightly used Trek MountainTrack 220 for my daughter, and she was quite dismayed to find that it did not have screw posts like her old Giant bike had. I showed her both in a bike shop and on-line several of the possible solutions, including behind the seat, and handlebar mounted bottle brackets. Despite that fact that the bottle could get dirty, she wanted a cage under the downtube.

I know that I will probably get some flack from some about structural integrity, but here goes. I used a common aircraft modifiers solution to add threaded posts to the underside of the down tube - a product called rivnuts. It is a cross between a pop rivet and a nut. Two carefully drilled 1/4" holes, $1 in parts from the local fastener supply house (plus a modified screw to adapt my Sears pop rivet gun for setting the threaded insert), and she had a cage mount location.

Besides the seat mount, there are also handlebar mount cages available. The one I have is not here at my house so I can't check the brand, but I couldn't find it at Performance of Nashbar. I bought it for my daughter at LBS though.

I put one on my Grandson's bike that the cage is attached with velcro. It worked great.

Yeah I found the bracket, but the one I found was a cage with handlebar clamp, not a bracket to which you mount a cage. That would work as well, just one more piece count.

Zip-ties work well. You could put a standard bottle cage on the seat post.

a really inexpensive idea would be to get a couple rubber bands from your postwoman and strap the bottle to the frame with those.
