I like him. I'll even watch the "prime time" coverage just to get another take on the stage. But then again, I have Tour fever, and as Paul said at one point today, when you have it there's no going back. For me, it's all good.

Hahahahaha!

Now if we can have four people say each word of that title seperately, that would be really funny.

All I have to say is:

Viva Tour "day" France!

Bob is entertaining. He rounds out the group each year with his view and sense of humour. I laugh every time I play one of the races that I taped this year where he called Boonen a "...pocket rocket..." In some circles, that could be a derogatory phrase.

it would be rather difficult to get karsten:

September 5, 2005 -- FORMER ESPN reporter Adrian Karsten, facing a prison tax rap, was found dead, an apparent suicide, in his Wisconsin home, officials said yesterday.

Cops declined to provide details but Karsten's ex-wife told The Post that investigators have labeled it a suicide.

Karsten pleaded guilty in July to failing to report about $607,000 in income he made as a sideline reporter for ESPN college football games between 1999 and 2002.

He was sentenced to serve 11 months in prison and nine months home confinement.

He was supposed to report to a federal lockup in Rochester, Minn., last Thursday but never showed up, his ex-wife said.

I've always guessed that his pronunciation of Tour day France (and don't forget, the way he pronounces "France" is vintage Wisconsin, too) is an intentional put-on. I mean, the guy raced in Europe, has been around people who pronounce the stuff correctly for most of his professional career, and I think he's saying it in an over-the-top midwestern accent to play into his character.

It was hilarious reading Martin Dugard's TDF Blog a few days ago when he talked about sights around the finish line - including Bob Roll, bare-chested atop the OLN broadcast booth.

I'd much rather listen watch Bob Roll than the constant 10/2 segments. C'mon. Lance is gone. I guess OLN thinks the only way people will watch is if Lance is on TV.

Actually, I think Bob is pretty insightful about what is going on throughout the entire race. Right or wrong, at least he has something to say. Not like Trout-wig. All he can do is ask Bob what he thinks since he has nothing to really say.

Let us not forget that Bob actually rode in the Tour day France. Like it or not, that kind of experience is priceless when covering the race.

Love the Tour Mania commercial. "Whattaya got for this?"

My problem with Roll is watching him. He's got a LOT of knowledge and a good sense of humor, so hearing him (and seeing his commercials) is fine. It's when the camera's on him that I go nuts. I don't have OLN this year (couldn't bring myself to pay $600 for 1-year satellite contract for only 3 weks of TV) but last year, I would do something semi-mindless while he was on, just so I could listen without having to watch. Did WONDERS. I got all the Bobke insight and humor without feeling the constant urge to nail his hands to the table...

did howard cosell ever box? did john madden play pro ball?

roll is a buffoon who still tries to appeal to the hip, slick, and cool crowd probably because he smoked a little too much ha-ha in his younger years.

that tour mania commercial is irritating as hell but nails boobke to a T.

i say bob roll MUST DIE :) !!

I'm a big Bobke fan. I'd actually like it if they'd get him to tell more stories on air -- that is, if he can find a way to get past the censors. Bobke in drag in the Trek commercial must have been one heck of a funny commercial to produce. Probably took them 5 days cuz he had them laughing so much.

I've never met him but I have heard stories that he is very nice and down to earth when approached.

Say what you will about Bobke, OLN's stuff is a far, far cry from the days of Terry Gannon doing introductions of one-hour weekly segments.

Vive la Bobke!

Bob Roll is awesome, a good commentator, but also a complete, and completely entertaining, wildman. It's Al Trautwig I'm amazed they let stick around, since he hasn't bothered to learn anything about cycling, and the others laugh at him for his cluelessness. I'm glad those idiotic "Cutters" are gone, but I miss Kirsten Gum's hawtness.

I'm pretty sure most of you'd find a way to complain about anyone else they put in the booth. That said, Bobke has charisma, has insight, and I enjoy his enthusiasm. I dismiss half the complaints as stereotypical roadie discontent.

I think it was last year, but someone e-mailed Bob to correct his pronunciation of Tour DAY France. He explained that one night after a Tour stage, he and a couple of mates went to a restaurant to eat and the waiters completely ignored them because they were American. He said he was so weary, hungery, and mad that he swore he would forever mispronounce "de." I'm not sure how OLN handles the complaints they must get. Despite his speak, the guy's got street cred and that makes him okay to me. I'd like to have a few drinks with him sometime -- I'll bet he' be one animated drunk! Bob don't rule, but he rolls.

i don't really agree, but i think this is very well said! :D

trout-wig is the one that irritates me. doesn't know what he's talking about, and doesn't seem like he's learned anything in the years he's been doing this

while i kinda miss seeing kirsten gum, i'm glad she's gone. her stupid fluff pieces drove me nuts. yeah, she's good looking, but tv is full of good looking airhead women. you can click on any channel to find another one. a dime a dozen

funny, I almost asked you the same thing from your post- I mean, who would come on a forum just to say that ?!? a 12 year old ¿

you can come at me anyway you like, and im holding on TIGHT to my twenties, 30 next month :(

When I first saw him, I mistook his mis-pronunciation "Tour day France" for ignorance. Despite the distracting hand gestures, Bob is quite knowledgeable and entertaining, though for me he's a bit of an acquired taste. I must say that he did irritate me a bit with his joke answer of how fast the riders were traveling going up the mountain climbs the other day. Perhaps that was another inside joke, but I would have liked to have heard a more serious answer. Anybody with the chutzpah to ride up next to Fignon in the peleton and ask "How's it hanging Larry?" has a special place in my heart. :) I like Bobke.

AHHAHA holding on tight to your twenties?? I'll probably be like that too when I hit that age, I'm 21 now.
When I asked how old you are, I really didnt mean it in a mean way at all, and I wasnt asking this because of something you posted earlier. I am sorry if you took it the wrong way.

90% of the time when I come onto this site, I am looking for information, I usually never post info, because I dont know anything!AHAHA Alot of you guys on here know ALOT of info, and thats why I come on, to learn things:) I really didnt want to start anything on here with anybody.

Anyway, about his "gap", I was just saying if it was me, I would try to fix it, but its not me, so we will leave it at that.

Not me....I am happy with any cycling coverage that I can get. That is not to say that just anyone would be okay in the booth. As much as I love cycling.tv I would much rather listen to Bob Roll than Anthony Mc Crosson. What would the OP do if there was no TdF coverage at all? All of the whining of these malcontents who have nothing better to do gets rather tiresome. I guess some people are never satisfied...and to say that "Bob Roll must die!" tells me that the OP is a bit disturbed.....whether joking or not. Anyone who thinks that is funny needs to take a serious look at themselves.

Trautwig is miles and miles better this year than last year. This year, he actually asks good leading questions about strategy, etc. Last year, he was clueless.

Roll has probably always been that way - I have to believe OLN hired him knowing exactly what they were getting. He's goofy, but he's been there, done that - so he has credibility, and he's entertaining.

I enjoy Bobke's commentary... it's interesting to say the least. He was at a pub not to long ago, at a meet-and-greet for the Cap-Tech Classic, here in RVA, and I'm sort of kicking myself now for having missed it for work. I'm sure it would have been a pretty cool evening, and the beer may have slowed the gesticulating down a bit. :D

Vive la Bobke!
Ahem! That's an insult to a francophone ("la" is feminine). It would be "Vive le Bobke!"

To honor his attitude toward the Froggies, I would try to mispronounce it "Vive les Bobke" but that would imply schizophrenia...

Instead, I use the English form: Bobke rules!
