Im upgrading my bike to use disc brakes, and everything seems fine
except I cant get enough cable pull from my brake levers. They are
the original levers for the caliper brakes. Do I need disc-specific
brake levers?

What disk set-up is it? try pulling the arm on the disk up a bit, then tightening the cable.

If these are road bike levers they won't work with any disc brake setup because of what you describe. Avid does make a disc brake setup for road bikes but that is the only I know of. You may be able to get one of those travel agent adapters but I don't know if they make them for this type of application. This is why you can't use road bike levers with V-Brakes. They just won't pull enough cable unless you have the travel agent adapter.

Caliper levers do not pull enough cable. If you're on a mountain bike, you should buy V-Brake levers which are disc compatible. This is preferable to buying the roadie disc brakes.
