Bicycle Mechanics - Threadless stem adaptor?

Hey, recently my freind got a SID race , and he by mistke cut the steerer tube too short. Dont ask why but he did it by mistake. I know of a quill/adaptor thing. His steerer tube is 1 1/8" and thise adaptor thing is supposed to like use the quill system to hold the steerer tube up, and instead of turning into a stem, it basically extends the steerer tube, making it able to attach a 1 1/8" stem. I know something exists, but i cant put my finger on it. Anyway if anyone of you have a suggestions, thanks.

there is a 1 1/8 threaded to 1 1/8 threadless adapter as well as the quill to threadless adapter.

Byron Yeah,but a too short steerer is still a too short steerer.If there is not enough steerer to securely calmp the extender to ,it's a potental faceplant situation. Maybe better to check if the steerer is replaceable.

The SID Race steerer by itself is NOT replaceable. One would have to purchase the steerer, crown, slider assembly all at once, for the steerer is pressed into the crown as are the sliders.

Hey-this is what eBay is there for! Sell the fork to somebody that could use the shorter steerer (unless he cut it really short...), and buy another fork. At least that way, you'll recoup about half the cost of the fork.

i was talking about the adapter not the extender. the adapter would work like a quill but you'd have to get rid of the star nut inside the steerer.

you are right. the quill adapter suppose to work with threaded headset. thanks for bringing that up.
