so i have a neighbor who is selling a bob jackson with all shiman 600 ultegra and reynolds 753 for 400. it's in pretty good shape but the stem is stuck in the fork and he can't get it out and there is a small dent on the top tube. besides that is looks great and is in my size.
my cousins friend is selling a touring bob jackson in amazing shape with some campy stuff and it has 501 tubing. i have no idea what makes a touring bike diff from a regular bike. this bike is going for 300.
my question is, are either worth getting. i want a bob jackson and older one at that and they both r in my size. or should i just keep looking. i don't mind it being used.
i tried asking the other forums, but they are way to busy with the tour/france to answer my question.

hammer that stems bolt. it probobly wont hurt it. touring frames have different geom, a little more upright... plus different braze ons etc etc....

they both sound like good deals. a touring frame will typically have more relaxed, comfort-oriented geometry. it could also have more tire clearance.

you're going to keep it geared i hope?

i'd go with the ultegra outfitted one myself. it's steel, so more than likely the dent is of no real concern. as for that stuck stem, did your neighbor try tapping the stem out from underneath the fork crown using a dowel or something?

i'm leaning towards the ultegra myself. he says he tried everything but i figure i'll find a way. the dent is what bothers me about the whole bike,

jacksons are fantastic. i have a custom with mostly 753 and some 631--light, stiff, fast... i'd go for that one. the price is great.

it's funny u say that b/c i posted the same question in the classic forum and someone said it was stiff tubing so i'd rather not get it. Interesting the two sides. i prefer a stiff tube, anyway. Update, totally leaning on the 753 now. so the dent, pretty small nothing major, ignore it and ride?

That dent sounds pretty sketchy.
I'd forget about it.
Oh, and give me this guy's number, too.
