Mountain Biking - K2 Mountain Bikes

Heyy all. I don't really know if this would be the right place for this post but I am going to try anyways. I am new to the whole mountain biking culture. I enjoy it alot. I have a bike and I was just woundering if it was any good. From what I have read I can draw the conclusion that it is (mind you this is based on what I know about mountain bikes which isn't alot). Anyways I was hoping you guys/girls could tell me what you think about it

It's a pretty good for dirt trails and fireroads and stuff. I have a k2 myself and I love it =P

Umm there are a lot of nice k2s out there but this one seems a lot like an x-mart bike, the components on this bike are bottom of the line. I guess it depends on how serious you are or are going to get about the sport, this bike is fine for now but though 1-2years of progression you will probally be thinking about a new bike.

Actually, yes I agree they are all low end parts, but matter of facts, they hold up pretty well becauce I've tried it. The only down side is they are very heavy.

Yeah I agree with that. This may be nother stupid question but if I decided I wanted to upgrade the parts for the bike. how would I go about knowing what would work and not?

K2's are excellent bikes for the money. Your description is of an entry-level bike, which is fine if you go for just an occasional ride but if you really start getting into it, you will want better components, such as the fork. Get the best bike you can afford.

For the drive-train, best to buy the Shimano detrauilers since you have Shimano shifters. Make sure the number of speed is compatable. Deore is mostly for 7-8speeds, LX is 8-9 and XT and up are 9. As for the fork... make sure you dont much a fork that has too much travel that will mess up your geometry.

Keep those Ritchey wheels around. I use a Girder rear on my bike, and it's a very solid wheel.

Funny you mention that becasuse what I just found out after trying to put a new tire on (the other one popped) the rim is actually made like 1/8th of an inch to big. A real pain to try to get a tire on. I found this out after looking at the measurements for the rim according to the manual that came with the wheels. So I measure it to make sure they are the correct size. Turns out they are 1/8th of an inch to big.

I once had a K2 bike, it holds up very well. You will be happy with it for now.

LoL yep, I have the same problem with the wheel too. I struggled for 10minutes to get the tire off to change the tube and another 10minutes to put the tire back on. I thought my wheel was out of true and casued that problem, but I was told that no matter how untrue your wheel is, it wont affect tire changing.
