I am doing my first road race in a month. I have not biked in about 2 weeks. Because of my knee. I really want to do good. What training do you do a month before a race? Should I be doing speed work or endurance rides?
What kind of race is it? If it's a flat, you will want to include some speed work. If it's hilly, maybe you shuld work on some power. On the weekends, (or whenever you do your endurance rides), however, you want to be sure to keep the mileage up.
Then, about a week before the big day, slow it down and do a little speed incorporated with some easy recovery rides.
Good-luck & do what feels right to you,

4 weeks to a race with no real base?
Just find the fast rides in town and do them all.
Concentrate on speed.
Once you get over the first few races then you get more of an idea on what YOU need to work on.

Its your first race so I wouldn't worry to much, but I would sugest some tempo workouts. These consist of long efforts that aren't easy, but are substainable. Also you should stay arobic during these. For me I have a max hr of around 202 so for my temp rides I go 30-45 mins with my hr between 160-163. Good luck and let us know how you do.
