Alright guys, here's the challenge. Starting monday,Feb 10, lets see who can log 1000+ miles by March 31. All participants need to join bikeprolog.com, and keep their log there. This challenge isn't who can get to 1000 first, or who can log the most. It's a challenge to ride 1000 miles by then. I'm sure some people will be able to blast this one out of the water, but it's a start. We'll see what can happen for awards, but right now it's fun. This is 100 percent based on the honor system. Don't log'm if you don't ride'm.
Awards(if we can get them) will be: 1st place, 1000/1000+ miles
2nd place: 800-999 miles
3rd place: 600-799 miles
4th place: 400-599
5th:0-499

Please use a computer, don't esimate your mileage based on time.

Post your username at bikeprolog in this thread so all contestants can see who's in, and know who to look for at bikeprolog.

I'm getting screwed over by bikeprolog. So far this year I have put in 1,773 miles, but it is saying that I have only done 756.9 miles, they're counting my time in saddle though which is 78:54, even though there should be 106 hours 57 minutes.

Fubar5,
post that challenge in the Month of May, we can blow that away, in just a week of riding, but right now, there no way we can beat that 1000 miles before March 30, so call that contest again in May and let see who got the legs to do it

Sheeat dude, you're a ridin fool. I've been having a poopy time trying to get in my miles so far.

If bikeprolog gives you the cold shoulder, keep a log on paper or use another log site, I don't know of any others right off the top of my head though

Fubar.. Fubar- You are saying we have 49 days to do 1,000 miles right. That is the goal.... Not for the year..

We'll have a part II for those poor people stuck in their homes.

Maybe we can have a trainer challenge too.

Easy for you to say since you live in SC and enjoy almost year round riding weather! Should be getting real comfy there. :D

I have a better chance of XC skiing than I do of biking 1000 miles by that date. Let's take a look at it again in May or June.

My http://www.bikeprolog.com handle is the same as the one I use here. Another site that has a free log that others can check is http://www.big-dogs.org

Peace,

Given how hard it is for me to spend over an hour on the trainer that would be more challenging. |8^)

What if you don't count miles on the trainer? I only count time since I don't have a rear wheel sensor.

I think that due to the fact that trainers and rollers are at least 1.5x as much of a workout, those people only have to ride 666 miles! Now that is a devilish number to shoot for.:D

This is great, with my commmute I can do this. Add on the trainer only and I should be able to hit it too.

Can we count extra milage for hills over 6%?

To ride 20miles per day... over 49 days... hummm... Sorry:( but that just isn't going to happen for ole boy. The physical aspect isn't the problem. It's that I have to many other activities in my life to dedicate what's needed to "complete" the commitment.

I have family obligations, kid obligations, business commitments, gym and a mountain of other tasks that fall under my charge daily. Dammit..this would be a fun challenge.

Bummer.......

Ditto. 20 miles a day, 49 days, and maybe my marital obligations would vanish.

20 miles a day...

My commute is longer than that.

RunYun
02-07-03, 05:05 PM
Then I would need to start keeping track of virtual miles. It's hard to consider trainer miles real miles. Boy I cannot wait for spring. :D

fubar5
02-07-03, 05:37 PM
Alrighty, we'll definetly have a part II come spring time. But for right now, anybody who can participate, please do.

How should we do the trainer challenge? By time or by mileage? If time, what would be a reasonable time to shoot for?

You can do miles if you can get a percieved average speed of the trainer. Then it's just a calculation.

hey i want to join in.. but i have a wireless on my bike.. i use the trainer when i am stuck riding late at night(live right downtown.. night riding here after 10 pm is not safe :( ) so i can log the miles i do outside but on the trainer i just do time.. have my cadence figured out and can pretty well guess mileage by time spent... so would that work?
thanks :)

Agreed, except everythings covered in ice, not snow here.

Another for the "holy smokes we're frozen under ice so we can't really cycle" complaints :D

stupid Toronto and it's frigid artic weather...I'm just counting the days until it starts to get warm.

its not about the milage. how about splitting this thread into a kilage goal for people who are only responsible for themselves and a goal for those who are responsible for 2,3 or more people. like claiming dependents on your taxes, you get a 'milage credit' for every person you are responsible for.

it is cold here in Toronto..brrrr..
one question? i joined bike prolog yesterday.. yep.. i am on the bottom of the list :)
i was wondering how they update it.. altho i recorded my mileage.. not much i might say... and it shows... it doesn't show in the ranking? do they do it daily overnight? just curious...
thank you

Damnit! I am in.

Cycled 15 miles today. It was OK. A lot of fun. Easier than I thought.

Was down only once, when a stray dog charged lightly, but unexpectedly.

I'm in, and for those of you complaining about people who live in warm weather count your indoor miles. For the first half I'll be indoor, but when the weather starts to get a little bit better I'll pull out the tights. My login is the same, stridercc.

J`luci.... Your assumption is correct, as regards Bike Prolog.
When you fill in your Journal details, even though it shows on your details immediately , it is the next day before it is fully registered on all the lists,

Off to a flyer first day of Fubars forum challenge.

Cycling back home from work, my thoughts were filled with the challenge, as it was pleasantly mild and dry, I decided to turn North and spin up out of the valley (0ne of those spur of the moment things we cyclists are prone to :D ) put in a couple of hrs extra riding and ended up with a 42.18 ride including the ride into work earlier on.

Am I in an early lead :D

Damn... why did I type that someone will probably go out and
lick me now. ;)

Was up till 4am working last night. I used every second of sleep I could find before heading into work this morning. Needless to say, that precluded me from riding. Extra miles tomorrow, it will be the only way.

You "the man" max... :D If anything, I am impressed with your stout fortitude. I am not so dedicated. I am also reminded why I left the mid-west for the left coast, where I am morally a minority...

There is no way can I do that many miles in such a short time, I live in Winnipeg, for the last month it has been -30 almost everyday, including this morning it is -40 I won't be able to ride until at least April but I hope everyone else can do it.

Are you making up the miles cross country skiing??? Should be easy...

For those living in the snow country, others sports should be considered point worthy... I love nordic back country skiing, especially snow camping or hut skiing. Wish I could get my wife into it...although she's said it's not out of the question.

I actually put in just under 20 miles yesterday, not to bad, considering it was 20 degrees fahrenheit (-6C) with a rather stiff breeze. My avg speed was 14.7 MPH ;)

As a bonus to this, the car should log less than 1000 miles by Mar 31. (This will be tough for me, as several of my group rides start about 60 miles away).
