Mountain Biking - Thoughts on IRC Mythos XC tires

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I found a matched pair (front and rear) of these for $25 brand new. Sounds like a sweet deal. I know they're XC race tires. How durable are they? I ride agressive XC with a good amount of sharp rocks. Are these going to get slashed on my first ride? My other thought is to run a more durable tire for normal rides and throw these on for the couple amateur races I'm thinking of entering this fall. Any riding adjustment coming from other XC tires? I'm running WTB Motoraptors right now. Thanks. BTW, after I decide to buy, I'll post the link so you all don't buy them all before I can get to them. :)
I have no complaints with mine. They're just a cheap whatever tire *shrug*

Make sure you get the 2.1 kevlar bead, as the profile on the 1.9 is super narrow. Pricepoint has them for $25 don't they?

Yeah, I was planning on getting the 2.1. And, yes, I found them on PP.

soft and they'll chunk a little on sharp rocks. Not enough not to buy them though. Between them and the panaracer fire series, they're the best all around fast tire out there.

For an inexpensive tire, I'm really quite impressed by them. They are not too great for aggressive riding or hard, slippery trails, but the rolling resistance is fairly low and they work pretty well in sand and mud. Something like the "all season" tires they put on cars...good for all round use where maximum performance is not required.

I blew out the sidewall on a back tire after about 4 hours of XC riding. The entire sidewall looked fatigued. May have been some sort of user error, but the reviews on MTBR suggest it is a common problem.
These tires have mad grip, but don't even think about using them as a race tire. Compared to my NBX Lites, Pythons, Mosquitos, etc it's like I'm dragging an anchor behind me when I use them. I do like them very much for trail riding when there are steep, loose, uphills and downs.

DITTO!
I prefer the Fire as an all-around tire. I feel it grips better and is more stable in corners. Of course, it's all contingent on psi!

I run the kevlar bead 2.1's on my bike, because they are cheap. They are pretty good all round tires, no durability problems with them. They roll a little slower than some tires, but for me it is a non issue.

I LIKE them, I have used them for years and I find them to be a really nice all around tire. Roll fast and give good grip. Low price too!
I find them to wear out quicker than WTB. I ride in the southwest, rocky and loose conditions. Traction is good though.

IRC mythos are not a bad tyre- for racing or for durability. Plenty of grip, and Fast enough for most trails and will still grip in the wet and Mud. Good all round tyre.
I prefer the 1.9's- Better grip in mud and faster rolling on hardpack. Then I am only 150lbs and years of running 1.8's on a hardtail meant that I feel the drag on a 2.1.
