the AC is out and they're not letting you go home? WAOW.

Yes, QUITE hot. Rode in it Saturday and Sunday. Blech. Guess who's shopping for swamp coolers right now?

Cup full of ice, some cardboard and duct tape, combined with a desktop fan = comfort.

Remember this. And be ready to fight tooth and nail with anyone who messes with your plans....keep a LOCKED ice cooler under your desk to refuel the ghetto-AC.

Did your boss say anything about short shorts and a tube top?

No as a matter of fact he didn't. Screw that stuff though I'm seriously considering going naked and then I bet you the AC will never break again.

My mother used to tell this story from her childhood, back in the days right after dirt was invented but just before mud became all the rage, that the AC in her car was a wire basket, filled with dry ice, she hung from a slightly open window. The local dairy here still sells dry ice, and I've seen it in grocery stores in other states. Put a block in a cardboard box in front of a box fan, instant depression era AC.

It's a capitalist conspiracy to keep you at work longer.

while you can't blame any one hot day on global warming, there will be lots more hot days because of global warming. especially in the west. and when the snowpack melts, you wont have any water. I'd move.

That wouldn't actually have as much cooling effect as water ice (look up heat of vaporization in the phase-change from solid to liquid to vapour). In the heyday of Rolls Royce, Packard and Winton touring cars, yes a bag of ice on the gap in the slightly front-window was great AC. :)

Its up to 88 today. Its hot, my work for the day is done, and I'm headed out to the water as soon as my pupils un-dilate.

Hit 96 or so today, and I'm so stubborn I did my long ride anyway. Shortened it from 62 miles to 59.5 though. Man, those climbs were hard!

You want some cheese to go with that? I ran a metal roofing crew for six years. Frickin' cooking on hot days. Now I'm working as a carpenter and I think about ho cool it is.

It was only 108 today in the next town over. We are usually hotter, though.

I live close to the ocean in san diego, so luckily I don't suffer much.
By the way, it's all a sign of global warming. We're all going to die.

If the Avian flu dosen't get us first.

In the same vein, I ran in to someone the other day that I haven't seen for a whiule (a real asshat) He asked me how I've been. When I told him about my bout with leukemia, the lady he was with chimed in "Not that Feline Leukemia that's been going around I hope", I groaned and walked away. <sheesh!>

Don't you have any OSHA rules? In CA, the office temperature must between, say, 70 - 80*, or something close to that. If not, I think you can go home or some work something out with your boss - i.e. telecommute.

It's been in the 100's here in SoCal, and especially in the High Desert. I don't mind the heat - when I'm not doing office work. Sweating a ton is fine when you're cleaning out the garage, or landscaping, but in office clothes? Yuck.

High of 100 here in Austin today. I did my lunchtime run at the gym.

And even worse -- even with SPF 50 sunblock, I'm getting way more than my RDA of sun, and my arms are getting pretty burned. I'm going to have to start wearing under-armor long-sleeves to stave off the Daystar. (And I'm not running in the afternoon after work; that's bike time!)

If it's that hot tomorrow, I'll have to head to Riverside and play some disc, just to say I did.

Wear some Daisy Dukes into work. Not as radical as going naked, but will still get much attention.

The air conditioner for the office broke at a factory I worked for and they bought tons of fans. After the air was fixed they would not allow the fans to be used in the factory area. Go figure.

Global Warming!!! YIKES. We little people can only do so much to help the planet but you have places like China that are burning coal at a crazy rate too.

Anyhoo I got to work this morning and I think the AC is working. YIPPIE. Yesterday sucked I went home with a headache.

I remember workin at the lube and wash changing oil. I used to take a rag and soak it, and wrap it around my head, resoaking it every 20 or so minutes. That was the only way I could have continued working, that rag really made a difference, otherwise it would have just too freakin hot in the garage for me.
