I would say more like 16-17, or size medium. I am 5-7 1/2", and my medium could be a little smaller, but a small would be too small.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM micargi bikes!!!

Don't buy a bike from a department store, get one from a Bike Shop

Read this and then come and ask some more questions

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=67259 should cover the basics.

But... don't rush in, I know its hard, but it means you will come out with the best bike for you in the long run and save money

I have no idea prices online or at LBS. All the bikes I got were all second hand on ebay.
My k2 was $380 shipped in nearly perfect condition!

The um... LXA003... sounds just about right for the ideal weight as a DH bike, but the components are crap. A 3inch travel dual crown fork? =P Sounds very x-mart to me.

Some that I pulled off craigslist

Yep... worth while checking them out... though they are not ebay dealers... All within your price range but not all are full suspension.

Not sure if you have said but what sort of riding are you planning to do because this will have a big impact on the type of bike you should buy.

I don't know what kind of riding you are planing to do and I don't know if there's Trek store near your house but one of my friends just picked up brand new Gary Fisher Bitter06 for $499. http://www.fisherbikes.com/bikes/bike_detail.asp?series=freeride-hardtail&bike=Bitter.
I rode his bike, it was pretty good!

Do not look for a full suspension bike as a beginner bike. You'll end up rather getting a beaten up, used, full suspension bike, or a really crappy X-mart full suspension bike.

Get a hardtail. For someone that hasn't been riding extensively, you definately do not need rear suspension. There are tones of entry level hardtails in your price range. Visit your local bike shop.

Here are a few:

You don't need rear suspension for jumping!!! You posted 2 bikes that are XC bikes, NOT made for jumping. Just get a hardtail...

In fact, jumping bikes are almost ALL hardtails. Here's (http://www.norco.com/ts/pass/templates/bike_model.php?lang=en&loc=fs&sloc=sx&tabloc=1&id=one25&col=white) a comon Norco jumper as an example.
